Asia Cup 2022: At a Glance

If you're a die-hard cricket fan, you're likely already familiar with some of the world's top cricket tournaments like the IPL, the ODI Cricket World Cup, and the T20 World Cup. The upcoming Asia Cup also falls within the same league, promising to be as action-packed as any other. After all, the tournament consists of teams with a legion of fans rallying behind them. The icing on the cake is sure to be the India vs Pakistan match, scheduled on August 28.

The marquee multi-nation tournament is basically seen as a precursor to the T20 World Cup, which will be played later this year. Six teams will eventually be playing in the Asia Cup, five of which – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka – have automatically qualified. The sixth team will be determined through a qualifier round played among the UAE, Kuwait, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

  • The last edition of the Asia Cup was played in 2018 in the UAE in the ODI format, which India won.
  • The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the pandemic; hence, the T20 format has been retained for the 2022 Asia Cup.
  • Initially, Sri Lanka was supposed to host the tournament in 2022. However, due to the economic and political challenges facing the country at this time, the ACC, on July 27, officially decided to stage the event in the UAE. Sri Lanka, however, still holds the hosting rights.

There have been no changes made to the Asia Cup 2022 schedule, which means the tournament will be held from August 27 to September 11 as planned.

Asia Cup 2022 Betting Tips and Predictions

We have compiled the below Asia Cup betting tips in keeping with the current form of individual players and the teams:

  • The tournament will be played in the UAE, so chances are the weather will be sweltering. We expect the pitches to crack, which means the spinners will play a vital role in the tournament.
  • Expect low-to-moderate scoring games for most of the matches.
  • Most of the captains would prefer to chase.
  • Among the batsmen, expect Babar Azam, Mohammed Rizwan, and Suryakumar Yadav to be consistent performers.
  • Rashid Khan, Shaheen Afridi, and Yuzvendra Chahal will probably be the pick of the bowlers.
ASIA CUP BETTING PREDICTIONS 2022
  • Pakistan have the biggest chance of winning the tournament this time around, with the most balanced side capable of going the distance at the time of writing.
  • India, too, have an equal chance of at least qualifying for the finals.
  • The wily Rashid Khan from Afghanistan could end up as the tournament's leading wicket-taker.
  • Babar Azam of Pakistan is in fine form at the moment, and may well usurp the top batter's crown by surpassing the current leading run-getter from 2018, Shikhar Dhawan.
  • We also expect players like Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka), Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka), Suryakumar Yadav (India), and Shakib Al Hassan (Bangladesh) to be top performers from their respective sides.

Asia Cup Betting 2022: Team Previews

1. Pakistan

Pakistan flag

  • The Pakistanis are the most formidable side this time, with an excellent mix throughout their order – not to mention their quality in both pace and spin.
  • Currently ranked 3rd in the ICC T20 rankings, Pakistan would be gunning for their third Asia Cup title.
  • The only apparent weakness is the team's inability to handle their nerves in pressure situations and knock-out matches in big tournaments.
Pakistan Key Players
  • Babar Azam: Captain of the side and opening batsman, Azam is currently the no. 1 batsman in ICC T20 rankings and can play under any circumstances.
  • Mohammad Rizwan: Wicket-keeper and opening batsman, Rizwan is currently ranked 2nd in ICC T20 rankings.
  • Shaheen Afridi: One of the most feared pacers in present times, Afridi's in-swinging deliveries cause a lot of trouble to the batsmen.

2. India

India flag

  • The defending champions are definitely among the favourites to lift the trophy. A few days back, the Men in Blue smashed a world record of 12 consecutive wins in T20Is.
  • Currently the top-ranked side in the ICC rankings, India will be eyeing their 8th Continental title.
  • Of late, however, they have been having trouble with their inconsistent batting lineup. The poor form of marquee players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant is cause for concern.
India Key Players
  • Suryakumar Yadav: The highest-ranked Indian T20 batsman at present, SKY is in terrific form. His wide range of strokes leaves bowlers dazed and confused.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal: A cunning spinner, Chahal's googly and flippers could very well prove to be dangerous, especially in the UAE pitches.
  • Ravindra Jadeja: Ace all-rounder and the most utility player of India, Jadeja’s spin and batting at the death will be crucial.

3. Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka flag

  • Despite being five-time champions, Sri Lankan outfit are not at their peak, and are currently ranked 8th in ICC T20 rankings.
  • They have, however, improved their performance in the last few months.
  • They will be considered dark horses in the title race.
Sri Lanka Key Players
  • Wanindu Hasaranga: The most reliable and highest-ranked Sri Lankan bowler in ICC T20 rankings, Hasaranga's googly is difficult to read by most batsmen.
  • Pathum Nissanka: The most consistent top-order Sri Lankan batsman in recent times, Nissanka has played some brilliant knocks for his side.
  • Dasun Shanaka: The captain of the side, Shanaka has donned the role of an explosive finisher in the past few matches.

4. Bangladesh

Bangladesh flag

  • Asia Cup runners-up in the last two editions, Bangladesh have had a difficult time keeping calm in high-pressure knockout matches.
  • The team's T20 record in recent times is nothing to write home about, either.
  • Currently ranked 9th in the ICC T20 rankings, we think they have slim-to-no chances of winning the title.
Bangladesh Key Players
  • Shakib al Hasan: Currently 2nd in the ICC T20 all-rounder rankings, Shakib has literally carried the burden of his side for the past decade. The most utility player for his team, Shakib’s experience will come handy.
  • Litton Das: The most explosive top-order batsman for his side, Bangladesh would be dependent on Das for a solid start to their innings.

5. Afghanistan

Afghanistan Flag

  • Afghanistan have been a consistent T20 side. However, in our opinion, they do not have the required bench strength to win the tournament.
  • Currently ranked 10th in T20Is, Afghanistan do have a quality bowling attack – resting on Rashid Khan – that can trouble any team on a given day.
Afghanistan Key Players
  • Rashid Khan: Arguably the most dangerous leg spinner in the world, the Afghan’s googly is the most difficult to judge. He is ranked 4th in the ICC T20 bowlers list.
  • Mohammad Nabi: The captain of his side and currently the No. 1 all-rounder in T20Is, Nabi’s experience will be vital, and he along with Rashid Khan will have to make the other youngsters in the team rally around him.
