Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Todays' Match Prediction

  • SL vs. BAN Win Probability: SL (80%) BAN (20%)
  • In the last 10 T20Is between the two teams, Sri Lanka has won six and Bangladesh has won four.
  • Both teams have met only twice in the T20 World Cup to date (in 2007 and 2021). Sri Lanka had won both matches.
  • Sri Lanka has a balanced squad consisting of power hitters, pacers, and quality spinners. On the other hand, Bangladesh has a good bowling attack, but their batters are in terrible form.
  • The pitch at the Grand Prairie Stadium will be pace-friendly. However, batsmen, once settled, can score runs freely. The captain winning the toss will likely prefer to chase.
Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Match Prediction

The Bangladeshis have a dismal record against Sri Lanka in ICC events, and that includes losing the two matches they've played against the Lankans in the T20 World Cup to date. On the other hand, while Sri Lanka did lose their first game vs. South Africa, they look in much better shape compared to Najmul Hossain Shanto and his boys.

Therefore, without an iota of doubt, we at CBA are backing Sri Lanka to win this match handsomely.

  • Sri Lanka is currently ranked 8th in the ICC T20I rankings. In their first game in this tournament, the Lankans lost to South Africa by a big margin.
  • Wanindu Hasaranga will captain the side, with Kusal Mendis as his deputy.
  • The middle-order batting woes continue to haunt the Lankans, as they were skittled for a paltry 80 runs by the Proteas.
  • Dhananjaya de Silva will replace the out-of-form Kamindu Mendis.

Bangladesh

  • Bangladesh is currently in ninth place in the ICC T20I rankings. Prior to the World Cup, they suffered an embarrassing series defeat against the USA (2-1).
  • They also lost their warm-up game against India, and their players do not seem to have adjusted to the pitches there.
  • Najmul Hossain Shanto will captain the side, with Taskin Ahmed as his deputy.
  • Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, and Mahedi Hasan are all set to play in their maiden T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh Probable Playing XI

Key Players

Sri Lanka

  • Kusal Mendis: The top-ranked Sri Lankan batsman in ICC T20I rankings has been a consistent performer for his side over the past few years. He was the second-highest runscorer (270) in the 2023 Asia Cup 2023 and has maintained an excellent strike rate. The pace-friendly track in Dallas will be tricky, and this is where Mendis’ experience will come into play.
  • Wanindu Hasaranga: The captain has come back to the national squad after a long time. He is the frontline bowler for his team, ranked 2nd in the ICC T20I bowlers list. In their first game against South Africa, Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers, sending home the Proteas’ two top-order batters. He can also come in handy with the bat in the slog overs.
  • Charith Asalanka: The middle-order batsman has also been one of the top run-getter for his side in recent times. He has absorbed pressure well whenever Sri Lanka has lost quick wickets. Not to forget he can be handy with the ball too.

Bangladesh

  • Mahmudullah: He has been the only silver lining in the otherwise lacklustre batting performance from the Bangladeshi batters in recent times. He was the leading runscorer (328) for his side in the 2023 ODI World Cup, with most of those runs coming in crunch situations. The team will bank on him to steady the ship once again.
  • Mahedy Hasan: He has been one of their leading wicket-takers in recent times. On a track suited to his bowling style, his performance with the ball will be vital. Importantly, the Sri Lankan batters have typically struggled against his spin, and to add to that, Mahedy Hasan has been a revelation with the bat in recent times.
  • Shakib Al Hasan: The top-ranked all-rounder has been the biggest disappointment for his side of late. The former skipper needs to rise to the occasion; Shakib is the most experienced player in the camp and knows the Sri Lankan side well. But, importantly, he is the leading wicket-taker and the highest run-getter for Bangladesh in T20 World Cup history.
