Betting Options for IPL or What to bet on?

The easiest gambling is to bet on which team will win the IPL 2019. CSK (Chennai Super Kings) and MI (Mumbai Indians) are the two strongest contenders for the crown. From 2008 to 2018, these two have shared six titles out of nine. CSK is the defending champion and was inactive for two years – 2016 and 17. Otherwise, this team led by former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has all the muscle and mind to win more trophies than any franchise.

Apart from these two, you cannot ignore Hyderabad Sunrisers, who was the title winner for once but reached playoffs four times. Then we have KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders), who has been consistent and reached playoffs in every IPL season since last three years. They already have two titles under their belt and can be considered as a serious competitor this year as well.

In addition to the winner for IPL 2019, there are many other betting options available. In a particular game, you can bet on a match or toss winner, best or most wicket-taking bowler and which bowler will take the first wicket. Man of the match, total runs scored by openers or a team, a number of sixes are the other options. There are some tricky chances such as which batsman will make fastest 20 or 30 runs, runs scored in first over of the match and how to first wicket will fall.

IPL 2019 Betting Preview

Strongest Teams:

1. MI vs CSK

The rivalry continues, this year as well. Why we are mentioning these two teams together? Because their battle is famous. We have seen office goers skip meetings just to watch few overs between them, car drivers pulling over the cars to see the winning six from Rohit or hard helicopter shots from Dhoni. Rohit adds to another gamble, whether he will make a century, if yes then how many balls will he need?

With the possible exclusion of Jaspreet Bumrah, the key bowler for MI, CSK could have better chances, but still, they have Rohit Sharma aka Hitman as an opener, who can score a century even in 20 overs. Then they have, Kung Fu Pandya brothers holding the middle order and now veteran Yuvraj six sixes, I mean, Yuvraj Singh has also joined the squad. Who can forget the six sixes hit by Yuvraj in an over to Stuart Broad? Another good news, they got their former bowling spearhead Lasith Malinga as well, who needs no introduction, thanks to his yorkers.

We can say the MI is the strongest team but CSK have a captain like M.S. Dhoni who can guide any team towards a win and is one of the best finishers. Power players Dwane Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina can easily contribute to retaining the title. Formidable Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson on the top are capable of providing good starts as they have done the same in previous seasons of IPL. Addition of Imran Tahir and Lungi Ngidi has strengthened their bowling department as well.

2. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Kane Williamson and inclusion of David Warner in the top order gives an extra edge to Sunrisers as both of them are capable of destroying any bowling attack. Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, and Deepak Hooda can easily do the needful in the middle order, as all these players have the habit of capitalizing on good starts and put high scores on the board. Sunrisers have the best bowling team among the eight teams, as they have proven performers of the last few seasons including Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, and Billy Stanlake. Then comes the most threatening spinner Rashid Khan who will be again playing the role of partnership breaker. With such names, Sunrisers can compete very well in IPL 2019 and can give you high returns if you bet on them.

3. RCB (Royal Challengers Banglore)

Blunt and bold players of RCB has been very unfortunate not have any titles till date in their kitty, but they have reached finals twice in 2011 and 2016. Its captain Virat Kohli is already winning accolades for his overseas performances and is the best batsman in current times. He can provide solid starts at the top and has the ability to single-handedly take the match away from the opposition. AB de Villiers has the ability to hit any ball for a boundary and that’s why he has played several match-winning knocks for this team. If RCB needs to score big, De Villiers has to bat and bat well. Other players who can score at a good strike rate from RCB are Parthiv Patel, Shimron Hetmyer, Colin de Grandhomme, and Washington Sundar.

In the bowling department, they have Tim Southee who is one of the best bowlers, Umesh Yadav who can be a nightmare even for the best in-form batsmen, and Yuzvendra Chahal who has won many games with his spin magic.

Weakest Teams:

Now, we already know the top four team that you can take a risk on MI, CSK, Hyderabad Sunrisers, and RCB. Let us talk about the weakest teams in the IPL 2019, who may or may not succeed as the bunch of players they have are not adding to the value. Let us start with the weakest:

 1. Delhi Capitals (DC)

They have not learned even after the horrendous season of 2018. Why are we saying this? Because they excluded the unsung hero of their team Gautam Gambhir, striker Glenn Maxwell, and a dependable bowler Mohammed Shami. Current eleven for DC is inexperienced and as there are only two players Shikhar Dhawan and Amit Mishra who has played all the IPL seasons. We agree that a young side puts all the efforts but lack of exposure leads to downfall as well. The only consolation DC can have: talented players, but if they collapse, the franchise will need another break-fix session. Overall, think before you bet on Daredevils as the squad is not a strong one, not even close.

2. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

The franchise has changed the playing eleven depending on their last year’s performances. Some of the prominent players are retained including Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, Ajinkya Rahane, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer. But, apart from these five strong players, we are not expecting rest of the squad to make much impact. Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler will not be available May onward as England is scheduled to play Pakistan. Team lack experience and is heavily dependent on 5 or 6 players, which is not a good sign.

Batting Analysis of IPL teams:

Batting is one of the decisive factors in T20 matches. IPL is famous for hard-hitting batsmen, thrashed boundaries, long sixes and that’s what the spectators are excited for. Let us have a close look at the batting lineup of each team, which will help you to decide some betting options. We will start from the best:

1. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Openers: Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Evin Lewis, and Suryakumar Yadav

Backup: Anmolpreet Singh
Sharma is a solid opening batsman and if de Kock comes with him, the pair can bat in comfort for more then 10 overs. They can also try Lewis with either Sharma or de Kock coming at 3rd position. Mumbai has a fabulous opening pair and a fine back up as Singh.

Middle order: Yuvraj Singh, Ishan Kishan, and Hardik Pandya

Backups: Surya Kumar Yadav, Aditya Tare and Siddhesh Lad
Yuvraj certainly makes the middle order strong, but if he fails Pandya or Kishan can take the charge. Backup is looking decent as well. We do not see any problem with the batting lineup of Mumbai and they should be able to reach the title.

Verdict: Excellent

2. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Openers: Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis

Backups: Murali Vijay and Ruturaj Gaikwad

Chennai has one of the best pairs of openers in the form of Watson and du Plessis or Rayudu. Any of these can play well to provide initial stability and runs. Vijay is another in-form backup along with Gaikwad. The franchise can’t ask for more.

Middle Order: MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Kedar Jadhav

Backups: Sam Billings, Dhruv Shorey, and N Jagadeesan.

Middle order can’t get better than this. Dhoni, Raina, and Jadhav are the best ones to make the mid batting strong. Doni is one of the best finishers and Raina has the highest number of runs in IPL. We can say that CSK has the best batting squad to retain the title.

Verdict: Excellent

3. Delhi Capitals (DC)

Openers: Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan.

Backups: Ankush Bains  and Colin Munro

Dhawan is one of the expert openers for T20 matches and pairing him with Shaw is a logical step by Delhi. The franchise also has good backups.

Middle Order: Rishabh Pant, Colin Ingram  and Shreyas Iyer

Backups: Manjot Kalra  and Hanuma Vihari

Pant, Ingram, and Iyer can form formidable partnerships and the backups are also decent. The only problem – if Ingram fails to impress, then they are going to miss the experience that the other two lack. Axar Patel can also bat for recovery if they lose some extra wickets.

Verdict: Good

4. SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Openers: Shreevats Goswami and David Warner

Back up: Jonny Bairstow and Martin Guptill

David Warner was unavailable last year, due to the ban by Australian cricket. Now, he is back to attack and we all know how powerful he is. With Jonny Bairstow and Martin Guptill as a backup, SRH has strong openers.

Middle order: Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Kane Williamson, Shakib Al Hasan

Back up: Deepak Hooda, Wriddhiman Saha, and Ricky Bhui

Williamson had a wonderful IPL in 2018. He is an exceptional player to bat at number 3 and will be leading the team this time. Pandey is talented and can live up to the expectations and Pathan can hit the ball well. Overall, Hyderabad has a fine batting line up, but the only problem – they lack all-rounders.

Verdict: Good

5. Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB)

Openers: Parthiv Patel, Shimron Hetmyer and Henrich  Klaassen

Backups: Himmat Singh and Devdutt Pedikkal

Bangalore can depend on the specialist opener Patel added with either  Hetmyer or  Klaassen.  Pedikkal or  Singh can fulfill the requirement if any of them fails to perform well.

Middle Order: Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis and Shivam Dube

Backups: Gurkeerat Singh

Presence of Kohli and de Villiers makes the middle order explosive while Dube at number five can do good.  Stoinis has the potential to bat at either 6 or 7th. Sing as a backup will have to be ready as Dube does not have any IPL experience. Bangalore’s batting department lives up to the expectations, but we have to wait and see if they can win their maiden title.

Verdict: Good

6. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Openers: Robin Uthappa and Chris Lynn

Backups: Shubman Gill, Sunil Narine, and Joe Denly
The explosive Uthappa and Lynn will be opening the batting for Kolkata. They can also try Narine who has done well as an opener. Opening partnership has the required firepower.

Middle Order: Nitish Rana, Shubman Gill, and Dinesh Kartik

Backups: Rinku Singh  and Nikhil Naik

With DK, the middle order looks decent, but what if Rana or Gill fails to perform as the backups are not strong. But, they have Carlos Brathwaite who will be coming down the order. So, they might be able to manage.

Verdict: Good

7. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

Openers: KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, and Nicholas Pooran

Backups: PrabhSimran Singh and Mayank Agarwal

Rahul has been one of the most successful IPL openers. If he gets the required destruction from Gayle, then the combination looks superb. If Gayle will not be able to perform, then Punjab will try Pooran. They also have a couple of decent backup batsmen.

Middle order: Mandeep Singh, David Miller, Sam Curran, and Karun Nair

Backups: Moises Henriques and Sarfaraz Khan

The middle order is not looking bad on paper, but the performance from  Singh and Nair has been below average from last few seasons. Apart from that, the backup options also lack experience. However, Curran has done well and can provide the required stability. If Punjab wants to go high in the points table, they have to think for the appropriate middle order batsmen.

Verdict: Average

8. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Openers: Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Butler

Backups: Aryaman Birla, Prashant Chopra, Rahul Tripathi, and Manan Vohra
Rahane and Butler, both are aggressive, compliments each other and can play for long. Once Butler leaves for England, Tripathi will open with Rahane. Rajasthan has many backup options to use as an opening batsman apart from Tripathi. We just have to wait and see, how the franchise will use them.

Middle order: Sanju Samson, Steve Smith, and Ben Stokes

Backups: Liam Livingstone, Shashank Singh, and Ashton Turner

Smith will make the middle order powerful, helped by IPL specialists Stokes and Samson. Once Stokes will leave,  Livingstone and  Turner will take the roles. RR has a daunting batting lineup, which will face test once the star players go back to England.

Verdict: Average

Bowling Analysis of Each Team:

1. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Hardik Pandya will be playing from Mumbai. Do we need to say something about them? Bumrah is the nightmare for any batsman in the world, Malinga can root out the wickets from his accurate yorkers and Pandya has also improved a lot. Mitchell McClenaghan, Keiron Pollard, Jason Behrendorff are always there to support the bowling pack.

Verdict: Excellent

2. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

The selection of Mohit Sharma has given an extra punch to the pace attack of CSK who already had Dwayne Bravo and Shane Watson as all-rounder pacers. David Willey and Lungi Ngidi are accurate with their line, length, and pace while Deepak Chahar, KM Asif, Shardul Thakur, and Monu Kumar are also there to crack winning wickets. All the available bowlers are adequate and none of them are leaving.

Verdict: Good

3. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Welcome to the bowling den of IPL 2019 that has Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Basil Thampi, Khaleel Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma, and T Natarajan. Vijay Shankar is the new addition who is a good pace bowler, but the only problem seems to be with Billy Stanlake as he will be leaving after some initial matches. The franchise has not opted for any replacement for him as well. Still, they have one of the best bowling attacks.

Verdict: Good

4. Delhi Capitals (DC)

Not only the name, but DC has also revamped the bowler’s list as well. They have retained Kagiso Rabada, Chris Morris, Harshal Patel, Trent Boult, and Avesh Khan while additions in the team are B Ayyappa, Keemo Paul, Ishant Sharma, Nathu Singh, and Sherfane Rutherford.

Ishant Sharma has done well in the past and is able to prove his selection right. Morris,  Rutherford, and Paul are the fast bowling all-rounders to benefit the pace attack.

Verdict: Above average

5. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

The franchise selectors made the right decision to ignore any bowler that may leave in the middle of the tournament. KKR already had the young cannons including Prasidh Krishna, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi plus they have smartly added Carlos Brathwaite, Harry Gurney, Lockie Ferguson, and Anrich Nortje.

While all players will be playing the series, the only problem is lack of exposure. Most of the bowlers are inexperienced and this may backfire, especially under pressure.

Verdict: Above average

6. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

With Tim Southee, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Umesh Yadav bowling attack of RCB looks balanced. They also have Marcus Stoinis, Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini. The only loophole is, Coulter-Nile and  Stoinis might leave in the middle. Still, they will have,  Umesh Yadav, Colin de Grandhomme and Southee. RCB will hope to see some wickets from these.

Verdict: Above average

7. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Dhawal Kulkarni is retained by RR while they bought S Midhun, Varun Aaron and Jaydev Unadkat. Oshane Thomas is also brought on board as a backup for Jofra Archer. Shubam Ranjane and Stuart Binny are the other options.

Varun Aaron, Stuart Binny, and Ben Stokes are the only bowlers who can restrict the opposition or get some wickets. Once Ben leaves, RR will be left with some mediocre options.

Verdict: Average

8. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

Punjab heavily revised its bowling department this season. They retained two fast bowlers – Ankit Rajpoot and Andrew Tye, but were forced to look for a replacement as Andrew will not be available after initial matches as he will be joining England against Pakistan. So, they have Hardus Viljoen as another fast bowler while Moises Henriques and Sam Curran will play the role of a fast bowling allrounder.

Andrew will leave soon and Hardus Viljoen is underperforming. With only Moises and Mohammad Shami, what is the best damage they can do to the opposition?

Verdict: Average

Key players to watch on each team:

All the eight franchises of IPL released their list of included players for 2019. Auctions took place in Jaipur on December 19th and 20th 2018 setting stage for an epic war. Some players were released, some retained and a few traded. CSK has the highest number of retained players that is 23 and the lowest is 9, for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Yuvraj Singh, Brendon McCullum, and Gautam Gambhir are few unexpected releases. We also saw some impressive buys. As every team is set, the whole world is eyeing on the league participants and their performance. Here is a list of all the players from each team who can perform well and can make you lucky while gambling.

No player can be compared to M.S. Dhoni, the captain of CSK. He is a true leader, one of the best finishers and has the potential to win matches for his team. This is the reason why CSK has the most wins in IPL along MI. Apart from Dhoni, CSK has high rated all-rounders like Shane Watson and Suresh Raina. Batsmen like Faf du Plessis can explode at any point and Ambati Rayudu can hit boundaries while making some important runs.

CSK pacer Mohit Sharma is likely to repeat his success as he is capable of bowling slower ones and yorkers. In IPL, Sharma has played 84 matches and taken 90 wickets out of them. Lungi Ngidi is also there to strengthen the pace attack. Such players make CSK one the top contenders for IPL 2019 winner.

Captain of Mumbai, Rohit Sharma with his devastating batting abilities can take the match away from the opposition. To complement and support him, they have famous all-rounders including Hardik Pandya, Yuvraj Singh, and Krunal Pandya. Evin Lewis, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan are there to strengthen the batting line up.

They have one of the Australian all-rounders and T-20 expert, Ben Cutting whose experience will add to balance and power to the lower order. Explosive batsman and a wicket-taker, Ben can be an ideal replacement for the likes of Kieron Pollard who will be axed if fails to perform in initial matches. Try your luck for his runs and wickets alike.

Mumbai has also retained Jason Behrendorff, a lethal bowler who can swing the ball both ways, Jason can get extra bounces on any pitch, wet or dry. This is the reason why he ended his debut for 4 wickets against India. A deserving replacement for Mitchell McClenaghan, who has lost his bites in recent matches. And then they have Mayank Markande and Jasprit Bumrah who will be the best bowler of this season for sure. With such players on board, Mumbai has all chances to win the title this year.

We cannot forget Kane Williamson who was the leading run scorer in IPL 2018 and is the 5fth player to cross 700 runs in the league matches. Then Hyderabad has David Warner who can destroy any bowling attack. These two are one of the key players you can watch and bet for.

In the bowling department, they have Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan and Siddarth Kaul who are performing well, especially Bhuvi, who has all the wicket-taking deliveries to don the purple cap.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are the two crucial players for Bangalore who are proficient in pulling sixes. They have all-rounder Moeen Ali who can do well and batsman like Parthiv Patel able to hit boundaries at quick successions. Yuzvendra Chahal is another young spinner who can perform well. Virat Kohli is one batsman who you have to really watch and bet on. RCB is yet to win an IPL title but, maybe if you can win some fortune through him.

IPL winner for twice, KKR has a strong squad of Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn, Kuldeep Yadav, Andre Russel and the captain Dinesh Kartik. With all the shots in cricketbook, Uthappa is one of the key players for KKR while Lynn is one of the gifted batsmen in the world. DK was highest run-getter for Kolkata in IPL 2018 while Russel is considered on the greatest hitters. Russel has made a century in 42 balls. With the bowl, Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav is a rare talent and then comes Sunil Narine, who can bat as well. In addition, Kolkata can cruise on Carlos Brathwaite, T-20 captain of West Indies who is known to score quickly. Carlos can bowl deadly yorkers as well, especially in death overs. Such destructive team can outperform any opposition.

KL Rahul and Chris Gayle will be opening the batting for Punjab and these two can keep the run board ticking. Rahul is not on his best in the current test series between Indian and Australia, but he was performing well in IPL matches. He was the top run scorer from this franchise in 2018, which also includes one of the fastest half-centuries. Gaylestorm is also expected to break several records this year. Then comes Sam Curran, who made some crucial run against India in the test series. He is likely to make additions to his impressive innings in IPL 2019 as well.

R. Ashwin will be playing as bowling all-rounder, who is known for wicket-taking victories. In the bowling department, you have to watch for the mystery spinner who took nine wickets out of ten matches in TNPL 2018, Varun Chakaravarthy.

Furthermore, none of the batsmen were allowed to score much as he bowled with an economy of 4.70. In 2018, he took 22 wickets out of nine matches in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Guess the reason for his success! Ability to turn the ball both ways. Let us wait for another milestone in IPL and see if he can win us some cash. Try Varun once he starts turning the ball well.

Most expensive player of 2019 playing for RR, Jaydev was the second highest wicket-taker in IPL 2018 and expected to show us similar performance this year as well. You can bet on him for highest wicket taking bowler. Off course they have Steven Smith and Ajinkya Rahane, one of the quick run-getters who can change the scenario of the game at any point. But, these are the only players who can repeat the success of RR, who was the winner of IPL 2008.

Axar Patel has the tendency to keep the batsmen silent and can also bat well in the lower order. An all-rounder with staggering fielding, he will definitely add value to the Delhi Capitals. Try your luck on his capability to take wickets and hit some boundaries. Apart from him, Shikhar Dhawan is another big name that you can watch for. Risabh pant has done well in the current test series by hitting the first century by any wicketkeeper in Australia, which will definitely give him a confidence boost.

Players to Watch from Recent Auction:

 1. Jaydev Unadkat (In RR at INR 8.40 crores )

Most expensive player of 2019, Jaydev was the second highest wicket-taker in IPL 2018 and expected to show us similar performance in 2019. You can bet on him for highest wicket taking bowler.

Welcome the mystery spinner who took nine wickets out of ten matches in TNPL 2018.

4. Colin Ingram (In DC for INR 6.4 crores)

A solid hitter that can not only score runs but also provide stability to the batting lineup, Colin Ingram has made 5186 runs out of 202 T-20 matches. With all the required experience, he can score well at a competitive strike rate.

5. Axar Patel (In DC for INR 5 crores)

He has the tendency to keep the batsmen silent and can also bat well in the lower order. An all-rounder with staggering fielding, he will definitely add value to the Delhi Capitals. Try your luck on his capability to take wickets and hit some boundaries.

6. Carlos Brathwaite (In KKR for 5 crores)

T-20 captain of West Indies is known to provide quick runs. In addition, Carlos can bowl deadly yorkers as well, especially in death overs.

7. Mohit Sharma (In CSK for 5 crores)

The Indian pacer is likely to repeat his success as he is capable of bowling slower ones and yorkers. In IPL, Sharma has played 84 matches and taken 90 wickets out of them.

Let us also have a look at those two players as well who were not playing regularly in the last seasons, but are expected to play a vital role in 2019.

8. Ben Cutting

One of the Australian all-rounders and T-20 expert, Ben’s experience will add to balance and power to the lower order. Explosive batsman and a wicket-taker, Ben can be an ideal replacement for the likes of Kieron Pollard who will be axed if fails to perform in initial matches. Try your luck for his runs and wickets alike.

9. Jason Behrendorff

A lethal bowler who can swing the ball both ways, Jason can get extra bounces on any pitch, wet or dry. This is the reason why he ended his debut for 4 wickets against India. A deserving replacement for Mitchell McClenaghan, who has lost his bites in recent matches.

Probable Top Batsman:

IPL is one of the biggest platforms for the new talent to show their performances, but there are cricketers who are already performing and might be successful this season as well. Take a quick peek look at the best batsman who is the top contenders for Orange cap in IPL 2019.

1. Shikhar Dhawan (DC)

In IPL 2018, Shikhar scored 648 runs and broke the record of Virat Kohli’s 641 runs in one season. He is in form, has ability to play the short deliveries now and can break a few more records. You can bet on him for most runs this year.

2. KL Rahul (KXIP)

Talented Rahul has the record of fastest fifty in IPL. Last year, he played for RCB and scored 659 runs last year at a strike rate of 158.41. If he continues to start from where he finished last season, he can walk away with the orange cap giving some high returns on your bet of best batsman.

3. Jos Butler (RR)

One of the exciting players, consistent performer scored 548 runs at a strike rate of 155.4 and helped RR to reach the playoffs in IPL 2018. Jos has been in terrific form and has the ability to score highest runs in 2019.

4. Kane Williamson (SRH)

A classy batsman, Kane who easily times the bowl and can very well play both spin and pace with. In IPL 2018, he scored 735 runs and won the orange cap. This time he is expected to do better and guide the team to the finals.

5. Robin Uthappa (KKR)

One of the experienced star players of IPL, Robin donned the orange cap in 2014 by scoring 660 runs with 7 half-centuries in it. This year, we and his team are hoping him to strike well to get the trophy.

6. Rohit Sharma (MI)

Rohit “Hitman” Sharma is one of the most destructive players of T-20 and that’s why he has 4 T-20 hundreds under his belt. He can hit sixes at will and has already guided his team four times to win the title: three times for MI and once for DC. He has never won the orange cap, but this time he is all set to fire. Orange cap or no cap, if one can hit a century in a T-20, definitely he is worth betting.

7.  Shane Watson (CSK)

One of the best players of T-20 cricket, Shane has been the man of the series in IPL 2008 and T20 World Cup 2012. With five hundred, he was one of the reasons why CSK dominated in 2018. The batman is consistent in making runs and if he continues the last year’s form, no bowler can stop him.

8. Virat Kohli (RCB)

When it comes to breaking records or hitting centuries, one can only think of the run machine Virat Kohli – best batsman of any format. Playing for the same franchise since 2008, he was the orange cap winner in 2016 for his 973 runs that included 4 centuries and 7 half-centuries at an average of 81.8. He is most obvious to be the top scorer. This is your guy, gamblers.

Probable Top Bowlers:

They say that the T20 is a batsman’s game, but pace attackers are the ones who are responsible for early breakthroughs and restricting runs in death overs. These are the reasons why players like Jayadev Unadkat are bought with a huge price tag. In this section, let us analyze the bowlers who can take easy wickets or restrict the run rate.

Trent Boult (DC)

The left-arm fast bowler from New Zealand is in great form and can rip apart any batting line up with his swing. The confident pacer is retained by DC as he was one of the best bowlers in IPL 2018. Boult has taken 33 wickets out of 28 matches in IPL, at an economy rate of 8.82.

Siddarth Kaul (SRH)

With bowling abilities like Bhuvneshwar Kumar,  Kaul has the guts to be one of the most lethal bowlers in the IPL 2019. He can swing the bowl both the ways and can fire yorkers at the right spot. Last year, he was one of the highest wicket-takers.

Umesh Yadav (RCB)

One of the fastest bowlers in Indian cricket, Yadav can sizzle again like last year, where he was one of the best bowlers from RCB. If we talk about numbers, he has played 108 IPL matches and got 111 wickets at ER of 8.32

Mayank Markande (MI)

Last year’s sensational spinner from MI will be expected to shine in this season as well. Using his googlies, Mayank took 3 wickets within four overs in 2018 and took the match away from CSK. He has played 14 IPL matches till date, took 15 wickets with an ER of 8.36

Rashid Khan (SRH)

Spinner from Afghanistan, Rashid is one of the toughest nuts to crack for batsmen. With an overall economy of 6.69, he has the ability to contain the best batsmen. In 31 IPL matches, he has taken 38 wickets till date.

Lasith Malinga (MI)

Sri Lankan bowler, Malinga may not in be in best form, but he is a champion bowler famous for his yorkers. He practices by putting two boots in front of the stumps so that he can bowl a perfect yorker. Apart from yorkers, he is also expert in deceptive slow ball, especially in death overs. Due to Malinga’s round arm bowling action, it is difficult for the batsmen to hit him for a boundary. He won the purple cap in 2011 and MI is expecting him to dominate this season. 154 wickets only from 110 games at an ER of 6.87, the numbers show his caliber.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (SRH)

The confident Kumar won purple caps in 2016 and 2017. Perfect yorker or pace, you can expect both from this exceptional bowler. He is one of the experts for death overs in the Indian team and is retained by SRH this season. The 28-year chap played 102 matches in IPL, took 120 wickets at an ER of 7.16. Expect him to be the best bowler this season as well and bet accordingly.

Jasprit Bumrah (MI)

Part of MI since 2013, Bumrah is the best pace bowler in the cricket world. Unpredictable and a yorker expert, he bowls best in death overs. Bumrah is likely to be the key player for MI, just like IPL 2015 and 2017. In all the IPL seasons, he bowled at an economy rate of 7.81 and took 68 wickets out of 61 games. He is doing his all-time best overseas in Australia by rattling the stumps more often than any other Indian bowler. However, he may not be available in this season as Indian captain and BCCI want him to rest for the ICC World cup later this year.

Why IPL is So Popular?

IPL has the most number of attendees and television viewers across the globe. In 2010, it was the first league series broadcasted on YouTube. According to  Duff & Phelps, the revenue of IPL 2018 was $6.3 billion, which greatly contributed to the Indian economy. Do you know why IPL is so popular? Let us discuss the same in this section. Here is a list of reasons why the IPL is gaining popularity after each passing season.

1. Added entertainment

IPL has added extra entertainment and style to T20 cricket. Loud music, beautiful cheerleaders and fireworks give a completely different sports environment, which looks more like a weekend party. Whether its the auction or opening ceremony, you can see many Bollywood stars that attract the viewers.

Famous celebrities like Shahrukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Preity Zinta owns three out of eight IPL teams, being KKR, RR, and KXIP respectively. Khan has a huge fan following in most of the countries while Shetty and Zinta are the famous actresses from Bollywood.

2. Controversies

Allegations and scandals are an integral part of IPL now. In 2010, Shashi Tharoor stepped down as Minister of State for External Affairs in a financial dispute over a new franchise, Kochi Tuskers. One of his friends has equity stakes in the team and this is the reason why he had to resign. The same year, Lalit Modi was suspended from the position of IPL Commissioner by BCCI as he was accused of corruption. In addition to these, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals were thrown out of the tournament because of ownership rules breach. However, the court lifted the ban from them and they played in IPL 2011. These are just trailers, things happen each year and you can find all the news on YouTube.

3. Global cricket stars

Top cricketers from India, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Bangladesh takes part in the sporting event and makes it worth billions. They attract viewers from their respective countries and cricket fans who like their batting or bowling style. Players like Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shane Watson, M.S. Dhoni has worldwide followers. People always want to see the ball going high and out of the boundary for six runs and these batsmen are expert in doing so. Apart from rude boundaries, players like Dwane Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja can show you some new kind of celebration or dance move.

Watching famous cricketer is one thing, but who would not like to see the players who have already retired? IPL just does that for you! Likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Muttiah Muralitharan, Michael Hussey, Ricky Ponting etc are either present to mentor their respective teams or playing from any franchise.

4. More money and business

Sportsmen and their support staffs are paid handsomely through the opportunities given in IPL. Cricketers who were unable to make a good living receive a hefty check after the tournament. Prize money is always there for a man of the match and similar awards.

Moreover, the league creates an opportunity for the hospitality, travel, transport, and advertising business to make some profit and grow during its running period.

5. Platform for young talents

Most of us are unaware of one of the fantastic rule of IPL – every team has to include two players under the age of 22 years. It means that a very young player who might be playing some early cricket of his life is given chance to face such high octane thrillers. They can simply excel with this chance by showing their potential to the national selectors.

6. Support for all the favorites

We can easily support the player we want to irrespective of the country he is from. Being an Indian, we cannot support Chris Gayle or AB De Villiers while they play against India. But, in IPL one can easily cheer for any cricketer.

All the seasons of IPL have been successful, but like all other things in this world, there are two sides of a coin. Similarly, IPL has its own pros and cons.

Advantages of IPL:

1. Mass entertainment

No one can move their eyes away from the television when there is an IPL match in progress, especially in the last four overs. Everyone wants to see the hard-hitting, quality bowling and dedicated fielding from the top players of the world. Feel the adrenaline rush in the body and get entertained, that’s what IPL means after all. Moreover, the games are short, which further adds to the excitement as working individuals or students can also spend three hours on pure entertainment.

2. Revenue

Prior to 2008, no none used to notice the months of April and May in terms of cricket. But, now investors, brands, businesses and advertising agencies plan well ahead for this month because of IPL. All of the companies especially sponsors wants their presence on the ground, so that everyone knows about the products or services they offer. IPL tickets also result in huge amounts. So, IPL is not only entertaining but also generate revenues for these brands, businesses and all the income contributes to the growth of Indian economy.

3. Platform for new talent

As we stated several times in this post, the league offers an incomparable platform for new players, especially for those who could have never got the attention of national selectors by playing Ranji or first-class matches. Likes of Ashok Dinda, Ravindra Jadeja, R. Ashwin, and Yusuf Pathan succeeded in IPL matches and now they play for Indian national team.

4. Infrastructure improvement

IPL is a cash generator and this is the reason why stadiums are improvised and added with better features prior to each season. Apart from stadiums, we have seen people purchasing televisions or paying for a broadband connection, which again helps in the development of mind, education, and culture.

5. Unity

Cricket in India is not less than a religion. IPL brings all of us together on the same platform while we enjoy the match. Families who spend less time together watch IPL matches sitting in the same room, hence gap bridges and communication improves.

Disadvantages of IPL:

1. Money game

IPL is all about money and revenue generation. Players are purchased in the auction and then they play well to show their worth and to win the prize amount. Many players and teams have been suspects of holding black money and that’s why some are even arrested. The suspension of CSK and RR are one of the examples.

2. Injury management

A team physiotherapist is responsible to manage the workload for a player so that he can get adequate rest time. But, things are different during IPL matches. None of the players get enough time to rest and result – they pick-up injuries and cannot perform well sometimes during international cricket matches.

3. Nation or Franchise?

There have been instances of conflicts and arguments between the cricketers of team India that may have caused unnecessary stress inside the dressing room while they play for the nation. Whether it is Virat Kohli vs Gautam Gambhir or Sreesanth vs Harbhajan, they all belong to the Indian cricket team.

4. Transparency of playing technique

Players from many countries come together during IPL to practice and play matches. They reveal their thought process, playing style and game techniques to each other. Any of these traits can be used against them while playing international matches.

5. Work hard to party harder

Many critics blame the late night parties of IPL to spoil the fitness of young cricketers. As per them, once an IPL match is over and the party begins, then there is nothing like cricket anymore. There have been instances where cheerleaders accused cricketers about harassment as well.
