The Indian Premier League 2020 Tips, Strategies and Predictions

Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad are hot favourites, going into IPL 2020. Mumbai Indians is the defending champion, and has won more IPL titles than any other team, with 4 to its name. Mumbai Indians has retained their core players, and boast of arguably the best T20 batsman, and bowler, in Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah respectively.

Mumbai Indians has explosive batting all-rounders amongst their ranks, including the likes of Kieron Pollard, and Hardik Pandya, who should be fit to play the IPL 2020. When it comes to placing a bet on the outright winner of the IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians is a hot favourite.

Not far behind is the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad has won 1 IPL title, and is among the most consistent teams in IPL history. Sunrisers Hyderabad has talented players in the form of David Warner, Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan, and Manish Pandey, among others, all of which are in excellent form, going into the IPL 2020.

Not one to be left behind, the Chennai Super Kings too, is an excellent outfit. Chennai Super Kings is the most consistent team in IPL history. Chennai Super Kings has experienced players in MS Dhoni, Shane Watson, Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina, and Dwayne Bravo, among others, and is among the serious contenders for IPL 2020.

MS Dhoni has not played international cricket since the 2019 ICC World Cup, and it is left to see how well he performs this season. That being said, MS Dhoni is the last player you should doubt, when it comes to performing well when called upon.

Kolkata Knight Riders had an excellent time in the IPL auction, which was held in December, 2019. Kolkata Knight Riders picked up one of the best bowlers in international cricket, in the form of Pat Cummins, and has a strong squad. The core players of Kolkata Knight Rider’s squad have been together for many a year, and is now their time to shine. Shubman Gill is likely to have a stellar IPL 2020.

Players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, AB de Villiers, Rishabh Pant, Ben Stokes, and Chris Gayle are likely to perform well for their teams, and they may play a huge role in determining the fate of their respective teams. Delhi Capitals has a young side, and may take a couple of seasons of consistent performances, before they can be considered as genuine contenders.

That being said, Delhi Capitals has purchased the star of BBL 2020 – Marcus Stoinis, and Jason Roy. If these two batsmen perform well, the sky is the limit for the Delhi Capitals.

Given Mumbai Indians’ firepower, they seem favourites to win IPL 2020. Mumbai Indians’ has a balanced squad, with players looking to play themselves into form, ahead of the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya may turn out to be Mumbai Indians’ key player this season.

Popular Betting Variants to look out for in IPL 2020

When it comes to placing a “Race to 10 Runs” bet, you should look to punt on batsmen who are coming to the crease after the 15th over, or batsmen who are playing in the first six overs of a match. These batsmen are likely to score quick runs, in the quest of getting their team to a respective total, or off to a flier respectively.

Players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and David Warner are likely to be fighting it out for the Orange Cap, while Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins, Rashid Khan, and Kasigo Rabada are likely contenders for the Purple Cap.

When it comes to placing a “Most Match Sixes” bet, you should look at the number of players in both teams, who rely on scoring runs via hitting sixes. Back the team which has a larger number of pinch hitters.

1xbet

A Fifty Scored in the Match” is another popular betting variant. Matches involving Mumbai Indies, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are likely to end with a fifty scored in the match.

When it comes to a “Top Team Batsman” bet, you should look to punt on KL Rahul when it comes to Kings XI Punjab playing a match, Virat Kohli or AB de Villiers for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rohit Sharma for Mumbai Indians, Shubman Gill for Kolkata Knight Riders (He is likely to bat up the order), Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw for Delhi Capitals, David Warner for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Suresh Raina and Shane Watson for Chennai Super Kings, and Jos Butler and Sanju Samson for Rajasthan Royals.

Betting variants like “Most Run Outs”, “Fall of 1st Wicket”, and “1st Wicket Method” rely more on luck than skill, and you should look to avoid these betting variants, no matter the odds on offer.

The Latest IPL News

The IPL 2020 Auction was held in December, 2020. Several teams had large purses, having dropped a plethora of players with the intention of starting afresh, while other teams retained their core players, and trimmed their squads. Let’s explore some key additions –

Kolkata Knight Riders needed to beef up their bowling attack, and oh they did. Kolkata Knight Riders purchased Pat Cummins for a whopping 15.5 Crore, adding much-needed steel to their bowling attack. Couple that with the purchase of Eoin Morgan for 5.5 Crore, and Kolkata Knight Riders seem like a much stronger team on paper.

Kings XI Punjab needed some strength in their middle-order, and they shelled out money on Glenn Maxwell, to solve this purpose. Maxwell was bought was 10.75, and comes with proven experience, having played for the Kings XI Punjab in the past.

Royal Challengers Bangalore needed a batting all-rounder. While Chris Morris is a good player, purchasing him for 10 Crore does not seem like a sound deal. Nevertheless, Morris could be a star in IPL 2020 – You never know.

Mumbai Indians had an excellent squad beforehand, and they further enhanced their title credentials by buying Nathan Coulter-Nile for 8 Crore.

Delhi Capitals needed to solidify their middle-order, and Shimron Hetmyer may just be the perfect solution at 7.75 Crore.

Chennai Super Kings made odd signings in the form of Piyush Chawla for 6.75 Crore, and Sam Curran for 5.5 Crore. It is left to be seen how they fit in Chennai Super Kings’ scheme of things.

As for the final team on this list, Rajasthan Royals purchased upcoming star Yashasvi Jaiswal for 2.4 Crore, and is expected to a play a huge role in Rajasthan Royals’ batting setup.

The first match of IPL 2020 will take place on the 29th of March, and will be contested between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, at the Wankhede Stadium. The last match of IPL 2020’s group stage, will take place on the 17th of May, and will be contested between Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Guwahati is set to host two of Rajasthan Royals’ matches, on the 5th, and 9th of April, against Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively. Pravin Tambe has been disqualified from playing IPL 2020, and Kolkata Knight Riders has been allowed to sign a replacement.

David Warner has been re-appointed as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, and will take over the reins from Kane Williamson. Jofra Archer has been ruled out of IPL 2020 – A major blow to Rajasthan Royals. BBL star Tom Banton wants to use IPL 2020 as a launching pad to be taken into consideration for England’s 2020 T20 World Cup squad.

Young Players to watch out for in IPL 2020

It seems like Prithvi Shaw has been around for many a year, but the fact is that he is still just 20! Shaw burst onto the international scene in 2018, and has not looked back ever since. While he had a decent IPL 2019, Delhi Capitals will be expecting more of him – Shaw has much more international experience under his belt, than last season.

Shubmann Gill is an international star in the making. He has been knocking on the doors of international cricket for quite some time, and IPL 2020 may just be his greatest breakthrough. Gill was forced to play lower down the order in IPL 2019, and he is likely to play at the top of the order in IPL 2020. Expect Gill to light up Kolkata with his stroke-play.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Priyam Garg are two players for the future, both of which had an excellent 2020 U-19 World Cup campaign. Jaiswal will feature for Rajasthan Royals, while Garg will feature for Sunrisers Hyderabad. While Jaiswal is certain to play a majority of Rajasthan Royals’ matches, it is left to be seen how much game time Garg gets.

As is the case with Shaw, Rashid Khan too does not seem to age. Khan is just 21 years old at the time of writing, and is already among the best T20 players in world cricket. With the experience of captaining his country under his belt, expect Khan to have another excellent IPL season.

Rishabh Pant must be aching after having been dropped from the international scheme of things up late. Pant is one for the present, and the future, and the IPL has been his launching pad. Expect Pant to lead the way for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020.

How is the IPL Structured?

The Indian Premier League consists of 8 competing teams. Each team plays the other twice, in due course of a season – At Home, and Away. A total of 56 league matches are played in an IPL season, each team of which plays 14 matches each.

For each match that a team wins, the team is awarded 2 points, while a wash out leads to 1 point each being awarded to both teams. Is a match is tied, a Super Over is played, and the winning team is handed all 2 points. If the Super Over results in a tie, another Super Over will take and so on, until a result is established.

The Top 4 teams at the end of the group stage, qualify for the Playoffs of the IPL. The least number of points by which you can qualify for the Playoffs is 8, and the most number of points by which you could still fail to qualify for the Playoffs is 20.

The Playoffs consist of the Top 2, and 3rd and 4th placed teams in the group stage, contesting each other respectively. The winner of the match contested between the Top 2 teams reaches the Final directly, while the loser of the match plays against the winner of the match contested between the 3rd and 4th placed teams.

Since the 2013 season of the IPL, Delhi Capitals have finished in the bottom three in 6 of 7 seasons. Their best result is 3rd, in 2012, and 2019. Incidentally, they finished the 2012 season’s group stage in 1st place. They reached the semi-finals of the 2012 Champions League T20.

Delhi Capitals have lost the most matches in IPL history – 97.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore is an ‘almost’ team, to say the very least. Ably led by Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore has reached an IPL Final twice (In 2009, and 2016), only to end up on the losing side. They have been given the tag of “Underachievers”.

Royal Challengers Bangalore hold the dubious record of posting both the highest, and lowest scores in IPL history – 263-5, and 49/10 respectively. Virat Kohli is the leading run scorer in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s history, as well as IPL history. Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket taker in their history.

Kohli scored a record 973 runs in the 2016 season of the IPL, only to lose to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL Final.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are heavily dependent on their top-order batsmen, and often require a mammoth total on the board, to give their bowlers a chance. Since the 2017 season of the IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore has finished in the bottom three all three times, finishing last on two occasions.

Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab is one of three teams to have never won the IPL. While the team has had a chance to lift the IPL crown, it was not able to take it. Kings XI Punjab reached the 2014 IPL Final, topping the group stage on its way there, only to lose to Kolkata Knight Riders, despite posting 200 runs on the board.

Kings XI Punjab is captained by KL Rahul. Shaun Marsh is the leading run scorer in Kings XI Punjab’s history, while Piyush Chawla is their leading wicket taker. Kings XI Punjab have reached the Playoffs only twice in IPL history, ending up as Runner-up on one occasion.

Since the 2015 season of the IPL, Kings XI Punjab has finished in the bottom three on 4 occasions. Kings XI Punjab reached the semi-finals of the 2014 Champions League T20.

Rajasthan Royals

The case of Rajasthan Royals is a curious one. Rajasthan Royals got off to a flier, winning the first ever edition of the IPL, in 2008, under the stewardship of Shane Warne. They have stalled ever since.

The leading runs scorer in Rajasthan Royals’ history is Ajinkya Rahane, while their leading wicket taker is Shane Watson. Rajasthan Royals was expelled from the IPL for two seasons – 2016, 2017 – after Raj Kundra, the Co-Owner of Rajasthan Royals was determined to have participated in match-fixing, and betting scandals.

The team has performed well since the 2013 season of the IPL, and has participated in the Playoffs in 3 of 5 occasions.
