Pakistan vs Scotland Betting: Overview

The 2021 T20 World Cup is now in full swing, with fixtures coming thick and fast in the super 12 stage of the competition. Already there have been some dramatic upsets, including India’s 10 wicket drubbing at the hands of Pakistan.

So far Pakistan and England have looked in the best form in this tournament, and are odds on favourites to qualify for the semis.

Elsewhere Sri Lanka and South Africa have both performed strongly so far, despite largely flying under most punters’ radars before the start of the tournament .

For Pakistan, a place in the semis is looking all but certain, as they sit at the top of group two on 8 points.

Scotland have already outperformed expectations by reaching the super 12 stage, but since then have floundered against stronger opponents. After their loss to New Zealand, Scotland’s hopes of a place in the semi finals have been dashed. However they will be fighting for pride, and a win against a top international side would be a highlight of many of the Scottish player’s careers should they pull it off.

Pakistan vs Scotland will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on the 7th November 2021

Pakistan vs Scotland Tips & Prediction

Cricket tips and predictions are always useful when planning your cricket betting, and this match is no different.

With Pakistan on a tear this year, having already dismantled one of the strongest teams in the competition in their match against India, and with Scotland having struggled against lower ranked teams such as Namibia, it is hard to see any result besides a comprehensive Pakistan win.

As well as being arguably the team that’s shown the greatest form this competition, Pakistan have a substantial advantage in overall quality, being ranked 2nd in T20 cricket by the ICC, while Scotland are down in 14th place.

In light of this, we expect Pakistan to win by a margin of 30 runs or more if they bat first, or to win with at least 3 wickets and 3 overs in hand if chasing.
Here are a few of our predictions for the game:

  • Mohammed Rizwan or Babar Azam for top scorer- Both the Pakistan openers have been at the top of their game this tournament, and we expect them to carry this strong form into this fixture
  • Shaheen Afridi for top wicket taker- The Pakistan pacer is a consistent threat, and while his performances so far have been impressive enough, we feel the best is yet to come from this 21 year old star.
  • George Munsey or Richie Berrington to top score for Scotland- Both Munsey and Berrington provide a solid backbone to the Scottish batting line up, and if Scotland are to succeed against a much stronger Pakistan team then they will need them to pull out all the stops. With both players having an international T20 century to their name this is more than possible.
  • Mark Watt for most economical bowler- The left arm spinner is the star of the Scottish attack, with his guileful variations which make him hard to score off. With the other Scottish bowlers likely to provide easier scoring opportunities, the Pakistan batsmen may be disinclined to take unnecessary risks against the canny spinner.

Pakistan are flying, with both their openers, Azam and Mohammed Rizwan looking almost unstoppable. Their bowling attack has also performed strongly, and so we expect them to stick to the tried and tested formula that has been so successful so far.

Scotland

Scotland’s schedule is intense for the last week of the super 12 stage. This week will see them play 3 games, with little time to rest and adjust between matches. Key Players

Pakistan

Babar Azam

The lynch-pin at the top of the Pakistan batting order, Babar Azam is crucial to the team’s success both in his batting contributions and in his role as captain.

With an average of over 47 in T20 internationals, Azam is remarkably consistent, and more often than not he sets a solid foundation for the team to build off.

He has shown fine form this tournament, scoring a classy 68* in Pakistan’s 10 wicket victory over their fierce rivals India.

Asif Ali

While not the most accomplished player in the Pakistan lineup, Asif Ali can be electric on his day, with the capacity to hit the ball out the park.

His monumental striking power was on full display in Pakistan’s recent win over Afghanistan, as he struck 4 sixes in an over.

There were doubts over his position in the side coming into the tournament, but his performances so far will have done a great deal to silence his critics.

Scotland

George Munsey

Munsey is the highest rated batsman in the Scottish side, being rated 21st best T20 batsman in in the world, just ahead of his compatriot Richard Berrington.

The Scottish opener’s World Cup credentials are already widely recognised, as he was Scotland’s top scorer in the 2019 competition, racking up a substantial total of 234 runs in 8 matches.

Alasdair Evans

32 year old Evans is a right arm seamer, notable for his control and ability to get movement through the air and off the surface. In 2019 he reached his highest career ranking as the 21st best bowler according to the ICC.

Since making his T20I debut in 2015, he has taken 40 wickets at just 20.7 and he boasts an economy rate of 7.45.

Form

Pakistan

Pakistan have shown incredible form so far during this tournament, winning all their games so far.

Their wins against India and New Zealand were particularly impressive, as they outclassed two of the strongest teams in the competition.

Against India they chased down a total of 151 without losing a wicket, and they beat New Zealand with 5 wickets to spare.

They have also beaten Afghanistan and Namibia.

Scotland

Scotland’s form has been mixed so far. As a weaker side, expectations are generally low for Scotland at international events. In getting through to the super 12 stages Scotland have already met or slightly exceeded expectations. However against the top teams they have not looked like much of a threat so far.

Their most impressive performance so far this World Cup came in their first match against Bangladesh, where they caused an upset by winning against 9th highest ranked T20 side.

Since then they have claimed wins against Papua New Guinea and Oman, but were defeated by Afghanistan and Namibia.

Pakistan and Scotland have relatively little history, which is not surprising given Scotlands’s status as an associate member of the ICC. That being said, the two teams have met on a number of occasions in both T20 and ODI cricket, with their first encounter taking place in 1999.

Pakistan have been totally dominant against Scotland, and have won every completed match between the two sides.
