Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan Prediction

Here are our Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan predictions and win probability, aimed at enhancing your betting decisions with informed insights.

Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan Prediction – ODIs

  • SL vs AFG win probability: Afghanistan (35%), Sri Lanka (65%).
  • Sri Lanka is ranked 7th, whereas Afghanistan is ranked 9th in the ICC ODI team ratings.
  • The two teams have played 12 ODIs to date, with Sri Lanka winning seven and Afghanistan four.
  • Both teams have played six ODIs against each other in Sri Lanka, with the home team winning three and the visiting team winning two.
  • In the last 10 ODIs in Pallekele, both the chasing and defending teams have won five matches apiece.
  • The Pallekele Stadium, which would host all the ODIs, has a reputation for having batting-friendly wickets. There is very little assistance for fast bowlers; however, as the game progresses, spinners tend to gain more grip. With both teams having good hitters, we expect a high-scoring series.
SRI LANKA vs AFGHANISTAN PREDICTION

Even though Afghanistan did create an upset by defeating Sri Lanka in last year’s World Cup, we are expecting the home team to have the upper hand in this ODI series. This is because Afghanistan will be missing a few key players, including Rashid Khan, giving us reason to believe that the hosts enjoy a better team balance. Our team at CBA are predicting this ODI series to go 2-1 in Sri Lanka’s favour.

Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan Prediction – T20Is

  • SL vs AFG win probability: Afghanistan (50%), Sri Lanka (50%).
  • Sri Lanka is ranked 8th, while Afghanistan is ranked 10th in ICC T20I team ratings.
  • The two teams have played five T20Is to date, with Sri Lanka winning three and Afghanistan two.
  • The Dambulla International Stadium will host all the T20Is (this is the first time this venue will be hosting T20s). The pitch here has a lot of assistance for the bowlers, especially seamers. Batters will find it difficult to score runs here; expect a low to moderate score in this series.
SRI LANKA vs AFGHANISTAN PREDICTION

Afghanistan has been a threat in T20Is, whereas Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has performed rather poorly in this format of late. We are expecting a balanced contest here; however, we are keeping Afghanistan slightly ahead, and our prediction is that the series will be 2-1 in their favour.

Key Players

Sri Lanka

  • Charith Asalanka: The middle-order batter is the top-ranked ODI batsman for his side. He scored close to 1,000 runs in ODIs in 2023, proving to be the backbone for Sri Lanka. He had a decent outing in the 2023 World Cup, scoring 288 runs. Importantly, he can also chip in with a few important wickets every now and then.
  • Sadeera Samarawickrama: With 373 runs under his belt, Sadeera Samarawickrama was the leading runscorer for his side in the World Cup. He has maintained a strike rate of over 100 while playing in pressure situations. He will be the go-to man for Sri Lanka.
  • Dilshan Madushanka: With 21 wickets in the 2023 World Cup, Dilshan Madushanka was the top wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in the tournament. He also became the first Sri Lankan (and only the second player overall after Mitch Starc) to take more than 20 wickets in his debut World Cup campaign.

Afghanistan

  • Ibrahim Zadran: Currently one of the most dangerous white-ball batters in the world, Ibrahim Zadran is right now the top-ranked Afghan batter in ODIs. He has a great record against Sri Lanka, having scored the most runs in this bilateral rivalry in 50-over cricket. Zadran needs to fire if Afghanistan wishes to post a big total on the board.
  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz: The wicketkeeper-batsman is currently the top-ranked batter for Afghanistan in T20Is. He has been in great touch in recent times, and cherishes playing against the Lankans in the shortest format. Need proof? Take a look at the batting stats below.
  • Mujeeb ur Rahman: In a country where wickets are tailor-made for spin, Mujeeb will undoubtedly be his team’s main guy with the ball, especially when Rashid Khan isn't available.
