When is the New Zealand Tour of England Scheduled for?

New Zealand’s tour of England is scheduled to take place between 2 June and 14 June 2021. The tour will be comprised of two Test format series, each played over the course of five days. That means the first test is scheduled to span 2-6 June, while the second will take place 14-18 June.

Respectively, the first and second Tests will be held at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London and Edgbaston, Birmingham. The meeting at Lord’s will be of particular interest, as the venue had previously hosted the 2019 Cricket World Cup final, and will bring back a lot of memories for both sets of fans.

New Zealand vs England Popular Markets

Outright Winner / Correct Series Score

A bet on the identity of the series winner, ‘Outright Winners’ is also known as ‘To Lift the Trophy’ in some places. This is especially the case if you are betting on the final in one of the top cricket tournaments around. For longer odds and a far better potential payout, some bettors attempted to predict the final score across the series.

Of course, this is most commonly done before the first game of the series, before some combinations become impossible or too obvious – i.e., if a series of five is drawn 2-2 after four games, it can only end 2-2 or 3-2.

Best New Zealand vs England betting site for Outright Winner: bet365

Match Winner

This is a simple bet on the match winner, although wins attained in Super Overs do not necessarily count. Any T20I matches that go to a Super Over are treated as draws by sportsbooks, unless otherwise stated. While this market seems basic, odds will shift depending on how the match goes, and the projections tend to fluctuate.

Best New Zealand vs England betting site for Match Winner: Unibet

The best sites around will have devoted animated graphics, which give a representation of play-by-play action. CGI is used to depict the action with bold graphics after flashpoint events, such as a batsman scoring a six, as is the case in the screenshot above.

Top Team Batsman

The top team batsman is the man who scores the most runs amongst his teammates. Usually, top-order batsmen with a history of high scoring in T20I action command the shortest odds.

Best New Zealand vs England betting site for Top Team Batsman: GentingBet

Top Team Bowler

This is the bowler that dismisses the highest number of opposing batsmen, with ‘Bowling Economy’ – the number of runs conceded per over – used as a tiebreaker. For the very biggest events, it may also be possible to wager on the bowler that gets the best Bowling Economy.

Best New Zealand vs England betting site for Top Team Bowler: 888sport

Over/Under 7.5 Runs in an Over

There are a number of variants to this market, with the higher the ‘Over / Under’ watermark, the longer the odds against it being exceeded. ‘7.5’ is used as the aforementioned watermark, as it is generally the point at which price lengthening accelerates; this means 8 or more / 7 or less runs will be needed in an over to win the bet.

To get over 7.5 runs, a player must score two boundaries from six balls – not particularly easy, but certainly a possibility for the top order of great international teams such as New Zealand and England.

Betway Cricket odds

The red and green arrows in the screenshot above respectively denote the odds of a particular outcome lengthening and shortening. Here, New Zealand’s 11th Over is shaping up to produce less than eight runs, with the odds changing to reflect an over that is below expectations.

Most Sixes

This is a bet on the player who will hit the ball clean over the boundary the most times. Players with a rich history of powerful strikes always lead this market.

This is a very popular bet type for the T20I format, as the focus is on scoring and taking risks, rather than retaining energy, as is the case in Test cricket. Boundary hits figure prominently in the late overs (15-20), meaning that it always maintains its popularity in play.

1st Wicket Fall Method

A study of form guides can help people considering a wager on how the first wicket falls – and who which lead batsman is likeliest to go first. Here, a batsman can either be caught out or bowled out.

‘Caught’ refers to a fair ball struck cleanly, but caught by an opposing wicketkeeper or fielder in midair. Being ‘Bowled’ out involves the ball hitting the stumps and dislodging the bails on top, or a ‘Leg Before Wicket’ (‘LBW’) call, in which a batsman uses his leg – with no prior contact from the bat – to block a fair delivery that is certain to hit the stumps.

In-play, bettors can also back the method of 2nd, 3rd, 4th (etc.) wickets falling within in-play markets.

888 Cricket Market

Batsman Over / Under 49.5 runs

This market offers a bet on whether a batsman will or will not attain a certain threshold of runs. Here we use 49.5 as the watershed, as a return of ‘Over 49.5’ from the selected batsman would also win any bet on a Batsman to ‘Score a Fifty’ – another popular pre-match market. Depending on projected scores, better batsmen are given a higher watershed figure, which might rise after the transition from pre-match to in-play betting.

Highest Scoring Partnership

Here, you'll be required to bet on which two players on the same team will combine for the most points. The punter picks two players, either from a pre-set list or through a customised combination, who they believe are likeliest to top the charts. In the case of New Zealand vs England Cricket betting, these players will be identified.

New Zealand vs England Cricket betting Tips

Look at Parlays

Many Cricket fans engage in parlay betting, where you combine several different bets into one, the prices for which are multiplied together to form a bigger payout than a single bet. For example, you can back “Bairstow to hit over 54.5 runs and New Zealand to win” – an unusual combination of one player enjoying a strong innings, but his side losing.

Interestingly, many bookmakers provide pre-set combinations – pertaining solely to one game or several different ones – which are available to new and existing users alike at an enhanced price.

Compare Bookmakers

In the case of matches involving top sides with a rich history of success, it is always worth matching up your predictions with a bookmaker that disagrees with you. So, for instance, if you think New Zealand will win a match against England, you need to find the operator with the longest odds against them. On the appropriate pages, market-leading prices are always indicated by bold text, arrows, shading or other visual elements on comparison sites.

Claim Any Welcome Offers and Bonuses

Every bookmaker has a special offer for new registrants, making research a vital part of getting the most value for your money. Sign-up offers usually take the form of a free bet or a matched bet.

With a ‘free bet’, you are given credit for wagering, but the stake is not returned with any winnings.

A matched bet is covered by the operator, but the amount in question is subject to rollover. This means you must play through the amount wagered a number of times before being eligible for a cash withdrawal.

There are also 100% deposit match offers out there, in which the amount you deposit the very first time is matched by the operator. Again, wagering requirements apply thereafter.

In other cases, such offers might take the form of a massively enhanced price for a very likely outcome – e.g. “40.00 on England to win series”, even though the regular price would be roughly evens (around 2.00). Winnings would likely be awarded as free bet credit, not as cash that can be withdrawn.

History of New Zealand v England Cricket matches

The World Cup final of 2019 was preceded by generations of exciting clashes between New Zealand and England. The very first clash between these nations took place in 1930, when England toured New Zealand, winning by eight wickets in Christchurch. Their victory was largely down to heroics from Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji (aka ‘Duleep’), who hit 49 in the first innings and 33 in the second, getting more than half of the 63 England required to win the Test.

Nearly all of the early encounters thereafter ended drawn, but England utterly dominated New Zealand between 1951 and 1977. In 1978, however, New Zealand finally beat England, breaking a curse of nearly half a century, winning by 72 runs at Wellington in the February of that year – though they still lost the series 2-1. The Kiwis’ first away win came five years later, with a win by five wickets at Headingley in Leeds in a series lost 6-1. Their first series win came the following year with a score of 1-0 on hostile turf, with an eight-wicket win at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge sandwiched between two draws.

To date, the 21st century has largely belonged to England, with England’s hosting of New Zealand in a 2004 Test Series seeing the hosts get their first series whitewash (3-0) against the Kiwis since 1965. In March 2013, audiences were treated to the unusual sight of every match in a series being drawn, when England toured New Zealand. It was the first time since 1988 that any H2H series consisted entirely of draws.

The late 2010s saw an exchange of series wins on home turf, the last of which saw New Zealand win out 2-0. Devastating performances took place in both wins of a four-game series, within which both wins were attained with an innings to spare.

Players to Look out for

These players have all stood out for their respective countries in recent years, and are sure to make an impact if selected for the fixtures between New Zealand vs England.

New Zealand

  • Martin Guptill

Guptill’s ability to mix up different types of shots has made him a common betting pick for top batsman in many matches involving New Zealand. His sense of timing enables him to continually evade the threat of hostile bowlers, ensuring that such opponents are unable to gain momentum, divesting them of faith in their own predictions.

  • Kane Williamson

Williamson is considered by many Kiwis to be the complete cricketer, with the sort of calculated – but no less ferocious or accurate – hit that can turn a game on its head. This is particularly useful in T20 action, especially in the late overs whenever the projections to not favour New Zealand. There is no type of delivery with a consistent history of troubling him, and he is the main reason New Zealand can compete with teams that prioritise physical strength.

  • Trent Boult

Boult has few, if any, equals on earth when it comes to bowling. He’s fast, furious and feared, but most of all, a great tactical influence who can maintain his entire team’s composure. The key to Boult’s success is the manipulation of every angle, which he enables through astute analysis of his opposing batsman’s stance and technique. Then comes the pace – the knockout blow that can ruin an opposing side’s day within mere minutes.

  • Joe Root

Root is the beating heart of England. A captain in the truest sense, with excellent leadership skills and tactical awareness, Root’s batting style is noted for its versatility under pressure. His best hits are angled more towards instinct than brute force, although he has a healthy measure of the latter when necessary.

  • Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow is impossible to miss on the pitch. Red-headed and musclebound, he has the stamina of an ox, the physique of a prop forward, and the brain of a grandmaster. If England need boundary hits with any urgency, Bairstow is the first name that comes to mind, with the Yorkshireman utilising his frame to create an optimal level of upswing to send the ball flying. He is also a second-generation wicket-keeper, meaning that the game runs in his very blood!

  • James Anderson

As of March 2021, Anderson is the only Englishman to have taken more than 600 wickets across the whole of his career. It is a phenomenal achievement, brought about through relentless study of his technique from the crease, and how it relates to the strengths of his broad frame. This enables him to select from a full range of angles without telegraphing his intended delivery.

Highest Test Team Total

For New Zealand

New Zealand's high score is 715/6d, attained in Hamilton vs Bangladesh back in February 2019.

For England

In what will likely remain England’s most devastating performance of all time, they hit 903/7d at The Oval (London) vs Australia back in August 1938. Meanwhile, their best post-war tally is the merciless 710/7d they registered vs India at Edgbaston (Birmingham) in August 2011.

Lowest Test Team Total

For New Zealand

New Zealand scored just 26 against England in Auckland back in March 1955. It remains the nation’s only match to date involving a run rate under 1.00.

For England

England’s worst day remains a pathetic 45 racked up vs Australia in Sydney, in January 1887. Only once since have England collectively failed to reach 50, against the West Indies in March 1994, with a lowly 46 in Port of Spain.

Highest Individual Test Score

For New Zealand

Brendon McCullum hit a devastating 302 against India in Wellington back in February 2014. Interestingly, Kane Williamson entered March 2021 with three of the top 12 individual scores, the most recent addition – by that point – being his 238 against Pakistan at Christchurch in January 2021.

For England

Leonard Hutton holds the existing record for an individual test tally with England, smashing 364 off 847 balls against Australia at The Oval in August 1938 – amazingly, he hit no sixes! In the same year Hutton died (1990), Graham Gooch set England’s post-war record, with 333 at Lord’s against India.

Best Individual Test Bowling Figures

For New Zealand

Richard Hadlee remains the record-holder for New Zealand in this department, with 15 wickets vs Australia at Brisbane in November 1985. Hadlee also holds the only bowling two economy scores lower than 2.00 in the top 12. More recently, Kyle Jamieson put himself in sixth place on the all-time best individual bowling figures for NZ, with 11 wickets from just 41 overs against Pakistan in January 2021.

For England

Jim Laker took 19 wickets vs Australia at Old Trafford (Manchester) in July 1956. His bowling economy of 1.32 in that Test remains second only to Johnny Briggs (1.24), who set the existing record at Cape Town a whole 67 years previously.

Most T20I 50s (and over)

For New Zealand

Going into 2021, Martin Guptill held the national record, with 19 fifties.

For England

Eoin Morgan holds the record here, with 14 half-centuries to his name.

Most T20I Sixes

For New Zealand

Guptill also holds the record for the nation’s highest tally of T20I sixes, with 139. As of March 2021, that is an outright world record.

For England

As a result of his high tally of fifties, Eoin Morgan has 113 sixes to his name – also a record amongst England T20I international players.

CricketBettingAdvice Final Say

On their day, England’s batsmen are unstoppable, with the likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow common picks to hit fifties (or over 49.5 runs) in any format. In fact, Root entered 2021 just 284 runs short of surpassing Graham Gooch – England’s second-highest run scorer behind the all-time great Sir Alastair Cook. In the bowling department, James Anderson remains active, adding more weight to the margin by which he already leads the all-time wicket taking charts.

They have more than enough power to overcome New Zealand on home turf, but the odds will not be massively against New Zealand in any meeting. Indeed, the odds memorably tilted towards New Zealand in-play during the 2019 World Cup final, at a time when several pivotal dismissals tilted the win probability 60/40 in favour of New Zealand. Memories such as these undoubtedly provoke the best bookmakers into competing for the best odds whenever New Zealand meet England in any format of cricket.
