MI vs LSG Betting Tips

MI vs LSG Betting Prediction

We’re backing MI to win the match @ 1.91 odds at bet365.

  • Mumbai Indians are at the bottom of the IPL 2022 standings, without a single victory to their name this season. Lucknow Super Giants lost their most recent outing but remain in fourth place.
  • LSG also hold a victory over Delhi Capitals, the team which kicked off the MI losing streak.
  • Both teams, and indeed both team captain’s, have come under intense scrutiny due to what many consider poor performance and poor leadership.
  • That said, there’s been many positives throughout the season for both. De Kock and KL Rahul have game changing potential as a partnership for LSG, while Tilak Varma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ishan Kishan have all proven their worth in defeat for MI.
  • In interviews LSG captain KL Rahul seemed more reluctant than his MI counterpart to make changes for this fixture.
CBA Verdict

Much like the bookmakers, we have struggled to pick a winner. The standings cannot be ignored, but MI have so much potential, and surely their losing streak can’t go on forever. It was a combination of LSG’s recent lacklustre performance and the differences in attitudes regarding strategic changes which made up our mind, which is why we’re backing MI to win here.

MI vs LSG Team News

Looking for the latest team news relevant to online betting on the IPL? You’ve come to the right place, here’s the latest to keep in mind before making your mind up on which markets to back.

Mumbai Indians

  • Mumbai Indians have now lost every single game this season following their 12-run loss to Punjab Kings. A shocking fall from a team that once dominated the IPL standings.
  • Statistically, they would likely need to win all but two of their games to make it to the qualifiers at this point.
  • Captain Rohit Sharma did nonetheless make history in that match, completing 10,000 runs in T20 cricket, the seventh batter in history to do so.
  • Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying “we need to go back to the drawing board and come back better prepared” suggesting broad strategic changes here.
  • The team has come under criticism for not playing overseas batter Tim David, who sat on their last game despite being bought for an astonishing 8.25 crore. We think he will be one of several changes to the line up here.
Mumbai Indians Probable Playing XI

Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Anmolpreet Singh, Tim David, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills, Basil Thampi

Lucknow Super Giants

  • Lucknow Super Giants lost to Rajasthan Royals by a mere 3 runs, their second ever defeat. The first was in their debut match against Gujarat Titans.
  • The game saw team captain KL Rahul dismissed on a golden duck, the third of his career. He also came under fire for sending heavy hitter Marcus Stoinis late into the game.
  • Despite intense criticism, captain KL Rahul has been defiant in interviews, saying “one bad game won’t change things”, suggesting little desire for too much strategic overhaul heading into this game.
  • There has been no new injury news since Andrew Tye replaced English pacer Mark Wood at the end of March. Wood is not expected back this season.
  • Considering these last two points, it seems likely that we will see a very similar line up here, although we’d be surprised to see the same strategic mistake with Stoinis.
Lucknow Super Giants Probable Playing XI

KL Rahul, Quinton De Kock, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Jason Holder, Krunal Pandya, Evin Lewis, Avesh Khan, Dushmantha Chameera, Andrew Tye

MI vs LSG Betting: Key Players

Mumbai Indians

  • Tim David

It was Wasim Jaffer who made the sporting news with his criticism of Mumbai Indians not playing the very expensive Tim David, he has a point that we think, and hope, will be rectified here. David has been sat on the bench following poor performance against DC and RR, but surely his international reputation is enough to warrant rolling the dice with him here.

  • Tilak Varma

Someone who has already proven their worth for MI even in this roughest of seasons is the astoundingly talented Tilak Varma, who was once again a shining light in a dismal game managing 36 runs off 20 balls. While there were other quality performance from MI that day, Dewald Brevis managed 49 runs off 25 balls, Varma’s youth, energy and potential have made him our key player here.

  • Jasprit Bumrah

Another reason for MI to be optimistic during tough times is star bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who managed an excellent economic rate of 7.00, better than anyone else from either team. He was also very good in their loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore, with an E/R of 7.75. Put simply, he’s a player that can be relied upon during tough times.

Lucknow Super Giants

  • Quinton De Kock

To many De Kock has been the most consistent player for Lucknow Super Giants this season, and was particularly excellent in their win against Delhi Capitals, where he earned man of the match. He looked like their best chance of beating Rajasthan Royals too, with 39 runs off 32 balls, but it was not to be. Nonetheless, if LSG are successful here, it will likely be in no small part thanks to this man.

  • Marcus Stoinis

Many people believe that if Marcus Stoinis was put in the game against Rajasthan Royals earlier, they would have emerged victorious. Considering he remained until the end, and managed 38 runs off 17 balls, it is hard to argue with that logic. He’s the heavy hitter they need in tough times, surely leaving him on the bench for so long this time around is unthinkable.

  • KL Rahul

While key players is usually the domain of those who have showcased excellent recent form, this is not the case for captain Rahul. That said, can there be any doubt he is a key player here? His legitimacy as captain may hang in the balance following that golden duck, alongside tactical decisions which many feel cost them the game. We are hoping for much better from Rahul here, who really needs to prove the doubters wrong both as a player and a leader.
