India has made wholesale changes to their World Cup-winning team, but their squad still has more experience than the home side. We’ve also seen that many of India’s reserves have plenty of T20I experience. It’s a chance for the selectors to look at untried players, but the new world champions will not want to lose this series. Harare is one of the lower-scoring grounds in T20I cricket, with the average 1st innings score here being 152. Of the 50 previous T20Is played here, 29 have been won by the side batting first and 20 by the team batting second. There has been one tie/no result. ZIMBABWE vs INDIA MATCH PREDICTION Resting so many players weakens India, but they should still go on to claim the series. The squad travelling to Zimbabwe boasts some exciting talent, though the home side faces challenges with certain weaknesses and notable absentees. With the hosts missing Sean Williams and Craig Ervine, so much now depends on the experience of skipper Sikandar Raza. There is some impressive young talent in the squad, but it will receive a stiff test, even against a second-string India side. In contrast, Zimbabwe is relying on one or two players to perform well. The hosts can cause an upset, and that’s why we at CBA think the series may end 4-1 in favour of India. All in all, we expect the men in blue to dominate. Team News Zimbabwe Zimbabwe’s cricketers failed to make the T20 World Cup, and that’s a poor statistic for this side. The squad mixes experience with promising young cricketers, and failure to make the major global tournament is a big disappointment. Captain Sikandar Raza will be familiar to Indian cricket fans following his stint in the IPL, while keen cricket followers will also be aware of the tall fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani. The rest of the squad lacks depth and experience, and that’s a concern for Zimbabwe fans. The experienced pair of Sean Williams and Craig Ervine were not considered for this series. In their place, Brandon Mavuta and Wesly Madhevere return following suspensions. With Williams and Ervine missing, the squad looks vulnerable, and much will depend on Raza and Muzarabani. Zimbabwe Squad Sikandar Raza (C), Faraz Akram, Brian Bennett, Johnathan Campbell, Tendai Chatara, Luke Jongwe, Innocent Kaia, Clive Madande, Wesley Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Brandon Mavuta, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Antum Naqvi, Richard Ngarava, Milton Shumba India Having won the 2024 T20 World Cup, India enters a new era, with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja all having retired from the shortest format. With several other members of the World Cup squad having been rested, it’s an opportunity for younger players to shine. The skipper of this Indian contingent has plenty of experience. Shubman Gill was not part of the World Cup unit but has played 83 international matches, including 14 T20Is. Shivam Dube, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson are the only members of the World Cup squad to be retained for this series, and they will be joined by travelling reserves Khaleel Ahmed, Rinku Singh, and Avesh Khan. The five games against Zimbabwe give the Indian selectors an excellent opportunity to look at young talent, and it’s a good chance for the likes of Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Abhishek Sharma to shine. India Squad Shubman Gill (C), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan, Tushar Deshpande, Harshit Rana, Mukesh Kumar, Ravi Bishnoi Key Players Zimbabwe Sikandar Raza: Having lost the likes of Sean Williams and Craig Ervine, the burden of run-scoring falls on the skipper, Sikandar Raza. He is his country’s best cricketer and is among a handful of Zimbabweans to have played in the IPL. Raza is a genuine all-rounder in the T20 format, having 14 fifties in this format and taking 60 wickets in 86 games. Blessing Muzarabani: He already has experience of franchise T20 cricket around the world, and Blessing Muzarabani could be the next Zimbabwean to join the IPL. He’s a tall, left-arm paceman who can generate a steep bounce from any surface. Muzarabani will offer a stiff test to India’s top order with the new ball, and the hosts will rely on him for early wickets. In 51 T20Is, Blessing has taken 60 wickets, with best figures of 3/14 and an impressive bowling strike rate of 7.35. Antum Naqvi: Batting all-rounder Antum Naqvi is an interesting player and one who could enjoy a bright future at international level. Earlier this year, he became the first Zimbabwean to score a representative triple century when he made an unbeaten 300 for the Mid West Rhinos in the Logan Cup. Naqvi can clearly bat. He’s only batted five times in T20s, but an excellent strike rate of 146.80 tells us he’s one to watch. India Shubman Gill: With Rohit and Kohli retired, it’s now time for the 24-year-old Gill to prove that he should be a regular player in the national T20I side. In his past 14 T20Is, Gill averages just 25.76, but his record includes a brilliant 126 not out against New Zealand in 2023. As the skipper, Shubman needs to lead by example. Riyan Parag: While he’s always been an exciting talent, Riyan Parag’s game lacked consistency in the past. In this year's IPL, though, it seemed that the 22-year-old was slowly bringing in more stability and consistency with a series of solid knocks for the Rajasthan Royals. Parag has been rewarded with his first international call-up, and it’s a great opportunity for him to claim a regular middle-order slot. Washington Sundar: With Ravindra Jadeja now retired, it’s an opportunity for Washington Sundar to become the permanent all-rounder in the T20I side. It's rather surprising that he’s already played 43 T20Is without becoming a regular name on the team sheet. But make no mistake, Washington is a threat with both bat and ball, as he can make useful runs in the middle order.
