England vs Pakistan Todays' Match Prediction

  • England vs. Pakistan Win Probability: England (60%), Pakistan (40%)
  • This is the first time that England will be playing Pakistan in a T20I since the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne. England won that game by five wickets.
  • England has won all three of their most recent T20Is against Pakistan.
  • An interesting piece of trivia: 64.1% of T20 matches at Headingley are won by the side batting first.
  • The toss could be important for the first game, as some rain is forecast for Wednesday in Leeds.
  • England will be without Ben Stokes, who top-scored in the 2022 T20 World Cup final, as he concentrates on red-ball cricket for now.
ENGLAND vs PAKISTAN PREDICTION

We at CBA are backing the hosts to win the series 3-1, provided rain doesn’t force any no-results. The power of England’s top order will be the primary decider in this T20I series.

Some of the English batters, like Buttler, Salt, and Will Jacks, all made big scores in the IPL, and they are in form going into the series. While Pakistan also had a sort of warm-up vs. Ireland, they lost the first game, which proves their vulnerability. Also, their relative lack of cricket compared to England’s players is another disadvantage.

The series certainly shouldn’t be a 4-0 whitewash, and Pakistan’s batters will come good at some stage. England will also need to rest Jofra Archer and possibly Mark Wood, so the threat of pace won’t be consistent. Expect the likes of Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Fakhar Zaman to take advantage.

Team News

England

  • England has recalled all their key players from the ongoing Indian Premier League, so the home team will be at full strength.
  • Regular white-ball captain Jos Buttler is in charge, and he leads a strong batting lineup that also features Phil Salt, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Duckett, and Harry Brook.
  • The big news is that Jofra Archer is back after a prolonged absence due to injuries. He probably won’t feature in all four matches, but he’ll add much-needed pace to an experienced attack that also includes Mark Wood, Chris Jordan, Sam Curran, and Adil Rashid.
ENGLAND SQUAD

Jos Buttler (C), Phil Salt, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Chris Jordan, Reece Topley, Adil Rashid, Tom Hartley

Pakistan

  • Pakistan travels with the same squad that contested three T20 internationals in Ireland. After losing the opening game on that tour, the experienced players stepped up and are in good shape ahead of this England challenge.
  • Skipper Babar Azam found batting form in the Ireland series along with Mohammad Rizwan.
  • The tourists’ bowling attack has good balance with the pace and seam of Mohammad Amir and Shaheen Shah Afridi, backed by solid spin options.
PAKISTAN SQUAD

Babar Azam (C), Mohammad Rizwan, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Irfan Khan, Saim Ayub, Usman Khan, Agha Salman, Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali, Abrar Ahmed, Haris Rauf

Key Players

England

  • Jos Buttler

England’s premier batsman enjoyed mixed returns for Rajasthan in the IPL, but Jos Buttler is likely to be the hosts’ primary source of runs. He will have a decision to make over where he bats in the order, but he’ll be a threat at any stage of the game. Buttler is close to 3,000 runs in T20Is and has an impressive strike rate of 144.61.

  • Sam Curran

Sam Curran continues to mature as an all-rounder and recently took on captaincy duties for the Punjab Kings in the IPL. He was the player of the tournament in the last T20I World Cup and can take the game away from Pakistan with both bat and ball in his hands. Curran has been economical in T20Is, with best figures of 5/10.

  • Jofra Archer

If he's fit and firing, Archer's pace will offer a severe test to the Pakistan top order. Footage of his bowling in a game has emerged, and it suggests that the speed is still there, and one hopes he can stay fit hereon. In the 15 T20Is he's played in his career, Jofra's taken 18 wickets at a very good economy rate of 7.65.

Pakistan

  • Babar Azam

Along with Mohammad Rizwan, captain Babar Azam finished as Pakistan’s leading runscorer in the Ireland series. When the team is struggling, they can usually rely on Babar to stay solid and rebuild an innings. Babar can play different roles at the top of the order and will continue to be Pakistan’s most important batter.

  • Imad Wasim

Imad Wasim has always been an impressive bowler, but improvements in his batting now make him a genuine all-rounder. He also has the experience of playing in English conditions after stints with the Notts Outlaws in the T20 Blast. Wasim was also the most miserly with the ball in his hands (economy of 7.20) vs. Ireland.

  • Shaheen Shah Afridi

The left-arm seam and pace of Shaheen Shah Afridi saw him take seven wickets in the Ireland series, more than any other bowler. His economy rate of 7.42 was also impressive, and if the conditions are favourable for swing, Afridi will be a serious threat with the new white ball.
