CSK vs KKR Betting Prediction

For CSK vs KKR betting in the 1st match of IPL 2022, we’re backing KKR to win the match @ 1.90

Bet on KKR @1.90 on bet365

  • For this match, Chennai will have to do without the services of Deepak Chahar and Moeen Ali. The former is nursing an injury to his quadriceps, while the latter’s India arrival has been delayed due to Visa issues.
  • The entire KKR camp looks match-ready and fit to take the field. Newly appointed skipper Shreyas Iyer is in terrific form, and that definitely bodes well for the Men in Purple.
  • With Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, and Shivam Mavi in the ranks, KKR has an enviable mix of spin and medium-fast bowlers. Plus, they have Andre Russell who can provide the team with crucial breakthroughs
  • Wankhede should be a belter of a pitch — a par score in IPL here is 180 — so bowlers will have to bend their backs to get any purchase off the deck. In the batting department, both CSK (with Ruturaj, Conway, Rayudu, and Dhoni himself) and KKR (Venkatesh Iyer, Shreyas Iyer, Andre Russell, Nitish Rana, and Sam Billings) are almost evenly matched. However, we think if there’s any slight advantage on offer, that lies with KKR.
  • The unassuming Sam Billings often stays under the radar as he goes about his business. But make no mistake, Billings is a terrific middle-over batter who can clear any boundary with ease. Importantly, he’s effective against spin, so that should provide a fillip to KKR’s chances.
CBA Verdict

Both camps appear on level ground, really. But we’re happy to take a punt on KKR to win the opening match of IPL 2022. The author is well aware of KKR’s abysmal overall record against CSK, but that’s what cricket is all about – upsets. And truth be told, given the firepower in their arsenal, KKR defeating CSK wouldn’t be an upset but something that should have happened more often.

CSK vs KKR Team News

Chennai Super Kings

  • CSK doesn’t start on the best of notes. As mentioned earlier, MSD will miss Deepak Chahar (probably for the better part of the first half) and Moeen Ali for the opener. So for the sake of CSK vs KKR betting, know that Chennai will take the field without two of its trusted lieutenants.
  • Devon Conway will probably get this opportunity to debut in the IPL and open the innings with CSK’s batting mainstay, Ruturaj Gaikwad.
  • CSK's batting seems to be in capable hands. Robin Uthappa, Gaikwad, Conway, Ambati Rayudu, Ravi Jadeja, and MS Dhoni will be at the helm of affairs. It wouldn’t be wise to totally discount Dwayne Bravo either. Yes, he hasn’t got enough match practice of late (he’s only batted once in his last six games), but his lusty blows can more than do the job for CSK, especially during the closing stages of the encounter.
  • It’s a selection headache for MSD in the bowling department, with Moeen, Chahar, and Dwaine Pretorius unavailable for the starter. We think spearheading CSK’s bowling will be Adam Milne and Chris Jordan – both right arm-fast. Right arm-off spinner Maheesh Theekshana might also get a look in as the fourth overseas cricketer, but for that to happen, Bravo will have to sit out.
  • Mitchell Santner will likely warm the bench as Dhoni might not want two left-arm leg spinners in the team (since Jadeja is a certainty).
  • From the domestic crop of bowlers, Tushar Deshpande should feature in the Playing XI. But it will be a tussle between Rajvardhan Hangargekar and KM Asif.

CSK Retained: MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali

Chennai Super Kings Probable Playing XI

Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Dwayne Bravo, Adam Milne, Chris Jordan/Theekshana, Tushar Deshpande, R Hangargekar/KM Asif

Kolkata Knight Riders

  • Venkatesh Iyer will, of course, open the batting, with Narine and Russell the all-important all-rounders in the ranks. And one cannot emphasise more the significance of having Chakravarthy in the team; he’s a vital cog in the KKR wheel, a top-class right-arm leg break.
  • Then comes arguably the most crucial buy for KKR this season – Shreyas Iyer. His last five T20I scores (80, 25, 57*, 74*, and 73*) testify to the impact this middle-order batter can have on a match.
  • Then there’s the troika of Ajinkya Rahane, Nitish Rana (one of the two is expected to open the batting with Venkatesh Iyer), and Aaron Finch, who replaces Alex Hales.
  • Sam Billings will have to play a crucial role in the team. Not only is he a capable middle-order batter-cum-wicketkeeper, but he also plays spin well, and that will only add more depth to the batting lineup.

KKR Retained: Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell

CSK vs KKR Betting: Key Players

Chennai Super Kings

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad

The 25-year-old was one of the architects of CSK’s victory last year, amassing 635 runs at an average of over 45 and a strike rate of 136+. If Ruturaj gets going, there’s little KKR’s bowlers can do but wait haplessly for him to mistime a shot. He’s definitely our top team batsman for CSK vs KKR betting.

  • Devon Conway

The South Africa-born New Zealander is expected to open the batting with Gaikwad, considering Moeen Ali won’t be available for the match. If you find decent CSK vs KKR odds in the over/under 4s or 6s market, go for Conway.

  • Ravindra Jadeja

A time-tested performer and MS Dhoni’s go-to guy. In 2021, he scored 227 valuable runs at an average of 75.66 and a staggering strike rate of 145.51. Plus, he’s a wily leg spinner who can give his skipper those crucial wickets.

Kolkata Knight Riders

  • Venkatesh Iyer

In the last edition, Venkatesh Iyer smacked 370 runs at an average of over 41 and a strike rate of almost 129. He was integral to KKR’s revival when the team finally turned their fortunes around in the UAE leg.

  • Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas may not have the sort of world-beating numbers in the IPL, but he’s in red hot form at the moment. In the recently concluded T20I series vs Sri Lanka, Iyer remained unbeaten in the three matches, amassing 204 runs while striking at a mind-boggling 174.36!

  • Andre Russell

Might not be the most popular choice, considering Russell’s form has dipped in recent times, and he’s not the player he has been. But if he can turn up fit, there’s no other number 6 like Dre Russ in international cricket. The fact that he’s still striking at around 165 tells you just how destructive the Jamaican can be.
