WWE Betting Guide: Odds, Tips, Popular Bets, and Strategies

World Wrestling Entertainment, better known as WWE, is a premier pro wrestling company founded in the 1950s. While the matches are well-known to be scripted, WWE betting still holds tremendous value, considering punters aren’t privy to match outcomes. Hence, this kind of betting is becoming increasingly popular, giving bettors an excellent chance at enjoying some handsome wins.

Royal Rumble WWE Betting Odds, Tips & Predictions

There's arguably no better opportunity to bet on the WWE than the Royal Rumble, with jaw-dropping odds as high as 100/1! Drew McIntyre won the WWE Royal Rumble 2020, and he had odds of 9/2 riding on him at the time.

If speculation is to be believed, then WWE has found a new home in Saudi Arabia for the celebrated PPV in 2021. We’ve compiled the best Royal Rumble 2021 odds, and betting tips and match predictions below. Should there be any major activity through the subsequent weeks, we shall update the odds accordingly and keep you abreast of the latest WWE news, so be sure to keep checking this space as the event draws closer.

Royal Rumble 2021: WWE Betting Tips & Predictions

Early odds are out, and punters are already on the hunt for profitable betting lines. As things stand, Brock Lesnar (15/2), Roman Reigns (8/1), and Keith Lee (15/2) are the current favourites to win the WWE Royal Rumble 2021.

But there’s another superstar whose odds have seen significant activity over the past weeks. No points for guessing – it is the Rated-R Superstar, Edge.

Randy Orton defeated Drew McIntyre at Hell in a Cell in October to become a 14-time WWE Champion. So, the idea that Edge might go on to win the Royal Rumble 2021 and eventually face Orton for the championship at WrestleMania 37 doesn’t seem ludicrous at this time. Alternatively, the writers may have another idea buzzing in their minds.

Come Survivor Series in November, and the Universal Champion Roman Reigns (with Paul Heyman by his corner) is set to square off against The Viper in the classic Champion vs Champion face-off. For all the interest this heel vs heel angle would generate, the match is sure to generate some intense WWE betting action in the upcoming months.

Although Orton vs Edge isn’t set in stone, there has to be some logic behind why bookies have given Edge the bump in his probability of winning the Rumble. How about McIntyre? Unfortunately for Drew, it looks like the Orton vs Edge match at Wrestlemania is more likely at this point in time.

Should you bet on Edge now?

Roman Reigns is usually the top draw for most WWE betting markets. But now that Orton is the champion, it’s hard to think what WWE might do differently other than prop Edge up for the championship at WrestleMania. That being said, there’s a long way to go from now and late January. Our advice would be to keep an eye on this market for now and follow the upcoming PPV and other WWE news in the meantime.

Top 5 WWE Betting Events

The WWE’s pro wrestling matches happen year-round, while WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown are, of course, the two flagship programmes that air weekly. Meanwhile, WWE NXT is a relatively new supporting brand that beamed across TV channels for the first time in 2010. However, it is the live PPVs that are the more featured WWE betting events across most sportsbooks.

Here’s a quick lowdown:

WWE Raw

First aired in 1993, WWE Monday Night Raw (or simply WWE Raw) is a pro wrestling programme and arguably the most significant WWE brand. Presented by Jerry Lawler, WWE Raw airs live on the USA Network every Monday at 8PM ET and has had 1431 episodes (as of the time of writing this article).

WWE SmackDown

WWE SmackDown is another pro wrestling programme that first aired in 1999. Currently, WWE SmackDown airs live on Friday nights from 8-10 PM ET and has had 1105 episodes as of October 23, 2020.

While it was initially conceived as a complementary programme to WWE Raw, SmackDown eventually went to garner a massive following of its own.

WWE NXT

This serves as a developmental division for newbies trying to make a splash in pro wrestling. While NXT is only a supporting brand, don’t make the mistake of undermining its popularity. You can also enjoy plenty of WWE betting action here.

WrestleMania

Undoubtedly the highlight reel of WWE, WrestleMania is an annual pro wrestling event that airs around mid-March to mid-April.  Featuring the biggest names in the WWE, WrestleMania cards are packed with high-octane matches that present excellent accumulator betting opportunities.

Possibly the most successful pro wrestling event in history, WrestleMania ran its 36th season in 2020.

SummerSlam

Billed as the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’, SummerSlam is yet another pro wrestling PPV, produced and promoted by the WWE for both the Raw and SmackDown brands. SummerSlam takes place around August each year, with 2020 witnessing the 33rd event in the chronology since its inception in 1988. In terms of popularity, SummerSlam is a close second to WrestleMania.

Survivor Series

Survivor Series is a pro wrestling PPV that airs in November every year. In 2020, this WWE event is scheduled on November 22. It will be the 34th instalment in the Survivor Series chronology since it first aired in 1987.

Best Survivor Series betting site: 888sport

Royal Rumble

Rounding up the ‘Big 4’ of PPVs, Royal Rumble is another annual pro wrestling event promoted by the WWE. First held in 1988, the Royal Rumble is usually scheduled in January and is a highly anticipated date on the pro wrestling calendar.

The event is named after the exhilarating Royal Rumble match. This is a genuine battle royale that sees a mind-boggling 30 wrestlers enter the ring at timed intervals and eliminate their competitors by tossing them over the top rope (both feet must touch the floor for a successful elimination). The last man standing is declared the winner.

The fun doesn’t stop here. The above PPVs aside, there are plenty of other special events that you can bet on. These include Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber, Money in the Bank, and the Clash of Champions.

Understanding WWE Betting

WWE is staged entertainment – undoubtedly pro wrestling’s worst-kept secret, and probably why  the idea of WWE betting sounds absurd to you in the first place. However, much like football and cricket betting India, you can bet on WWE matches as well.

Confused? We'll clarify things a bit further.

The match outcomes and scripts are kept under wraps, and not many are privileged to know such information. Insiders with first-hand knowledge, of course, cannot bet. So, the regular punter has no idea what could possibly go down in a particular match or a pay-per-view.

This has led multiple bookies to offer WWE betting markets and favourable odds. Much like the rush of watching your favourite wrestlers in action, it is the unpredictability of the match outcomes that makes betting on the sport an equally thrilling and profitable opportunity.

How Do WWE Betting Sites Guard Against Scripted Finishes?

Considering WWE matches are scripted and involve pre-determined outcomes, bookies have to limit the action they can accept from a punter. A few years ago, a scandal broke out when a lucky bettor hit an impressive 10-fold acca and brought home a whopping $45,000. But was the bettor really lucky, or did he have access to inside knowledge? Experts believe the latter helped him enjoy his grand payday.

So, because of such scandals and other potential WWE storyline leaks, most WWE betting sites cap the maximum money you can wager on an individual bet. Furthermore, most sites don’t allow you to place an acca. These checks and balances have been able to prevent mischievous punters from hoodwinking the system as the notorious heels would do inside a pro wrestling ring.

Can You Bet on Other Pro Wrestling Promos with WWE Betting Sites?

Previously, such sites would only allow wagers to be placed on its own promotions – WWE Raw, WWE SmackDown, and other PPVs. However, all this has changed now. With the rapid rise of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in the United States as well as the big money that’s involved, most WWE betting sites today offer AEW betting odds.

Additionally, you can now wager on New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) across multiple betting sites. Betting on AEW and NJPW is identical to betting on the WWE, so you need not learn any other pro wrestling strategy.

Moneylines are undoubtedly the standard bets, where you only predict the winner of a match, a season-long title defence, or a PPV event like the Royal Rumble. These bets are straightforward and ideal for freshers seeking to get the hang of World Wrestling Entertainment betting for the first time.

Besides, some sites and sportsbooks may also offer basic prop bets to spice things up a little more. Stated below are just a few of these special wagers.

First-Time Winner

This prop bets pays out only if the winner of a particular match/event hasn’t ever won before. You can place a small wager on this and punt on a dark horse to take the belt home.

Best betting sites: 22Bet | 1xBet | Unibet | Betway

Maximum In-Ring Time

As simple as it gets, here you punt on a wrestler to spend the longest time in the ring during an event. Again, you are advised to bet in small amounts so that you don’t lose much should your pick get eliminated quickly.

Best betting site: 888sport

First to Appear

Suppose you are betting on the WWE Royal Rumble. With this prop bet, you are simply predicting which wrestler would show up first from the pool of 30. Remember, this bet doesn’t have anything to do with the winner of the match.

Best betting site: 888sport

Appearance Bets

WWE is full of surprises. Remember the 2019 Men’s Royal Rumble battle royal when Nia Jax entered at #30? R-Truth was initially slated to be the last entrant, but owing to some last-minute change in the storyline, it was Jax who made it to the ring. What’s more, she even hoisted Mustafa Ali and flung him over the top rope to earn one elimination!

Appearance bets are great fun, considering they offer the element of surprise. Think a retired wrestler would compete in a match? Or a UFC fighter for that matter? Go for this prop bet; but, once again, exercise caution, and try not to go all out.

Method of Victory

Also known as a ‘bout outcome’ bet, here you take your pick on how a match could be won. Pinfall? Submission? Disqualification? If you think you can get it right, we say why not!

Elimination bets

This prop bet is almost tailor-made for Royal Rumble. You don’t have to bother with who wins the event; just punt on who you think would be eliminated first (First to be Eliminated), which wrestler might wipe the ring and earn the most number of eliminations (Maximum Eliminations), or the maximum time a wrestler would last before getting dumped over the top rope.

After/Next Champion

As its name implies, this bet requires you to predict who would be the next champion. For example, Roman Reigns successfully defended his Universal Championship at Hell in a Cell 2020. So, as on the day of writing, The Big Dog (or more like The Tribal Chief, take your pick!) is the WWE Universal Champion.

With this prop bet, you punt on a wrestler you think can Superman Punch Reigns and take his title from him.

Champion by [Date]

WWE betting markets just don’t seem to end! With this pro wrestling bet, you punt on a wrestler to become the champ within a specific date.

Feuds

We won't mince out words – this pro wrestling prop bet is a tricky one, and you must truly be a WWE aficianado to get it right. Here, you'll need to bet on the wrestlers you think would square off in a match; you can also expect longer odds if the match in question is a triple-threat fight. Our advice? Check out our list of the best WWE live streaming sites, track the latest WWE news, and stay on top of whatever is happening.

WWE Betting Tips

Choosing a wrestler to back is a bit complicated. Considering the matches are scripted and their results decided in advance, expect more shockers here compared to horse race betting or Pro Kabaddi League betting, for example. There’s also no rationale behind probing into statistics, as pro wrestling can always throw a curveball at you when you least expect it.

For instance, at WrestleMania 30, Brock Lesnar was an underdog at 9/1. But the Beast Incarnate (and the writers) stunned the WWE universe by ending The Undertaker’s 21-0 streak. Imagine the heartbreak of those who had backed The Deadman and the glee of those had bet on Lesnar! It’s this unpredictability that lends all the excitement to WWE betting.

However, there are certain factors that you should consider in order to place an informed bet:

  • Instead of analysing the wrestlers’ recent forms or their H2H records, try and locate a pattern in the storylines and how past events/matches have turned out.
  • Suppose you wish to bet on the winner of Royal Rumble, or the next titleholder at a pay-per-view as celebrated as the WrestleMania. In this case, you’d do well if you backed the more popular wrestler – face or heel. Why? Don’t forget WWE is pro wrestling ‘entertainment’, so you can expect the money-maker and crowd-favourite to have the championship belt around his waist nine times out of ten. For example, John Cena has held the WWE Championship a record 13 times – not mere coincidence, as far as we're concerned.

That said, be it WWE betting or cricket betting analysis, tipsters can only take you so far. As with all other sports, a winning bet can never be guaranteed, and you should take all suggestions with a pinch of salt.

WWE Betting Strategy

Did your head spin around the equator when we mentioned betting on the WWE the first time? Well, brace yourselves, because for all the randomness that pro wrestling betting involves, there’s a fair amount of strategising to get around, which can further your chances of winning real money from betting on World Wrestling Entertainment.

At its heart, sports betting in general is about analysing information and making an educated guess. Suppose you want to bet on the India tour of Australia. You'll probably look at some of the past matches played Down Under, the two teams’ H2H records on Aussie soil, and how they’ve fared of late.

That’s exactly what you do with WWE betting as well; the only difference being that you will have to adjust your focus. Because pro wrestling is staged entertainment, there’s not much you can achieve by delving into the athletes’ form and past records against each other. None of this will matter.

Instead, focus on:

How have the writers gone about their scripts in the past?

Do the writers go for the more outlandish outcomes, or stick to the likelier (read safer) ones? What kind of surprises does the WWE pull off from time to time? In a nutshell, try to gauge the current trends of the scriptwriters.

How does the company treat a particular wrestler?

For all their wrestling prowess and technical in-ring skills, wrestlers like Nakamura, The Miz, Ricochet, Cesaro, R-Truth, and Rey Mysterio are lower-card and mid-card at best. It is shocking why The Miz isn’t a main-eventer already, considering he’s fabulous with the mic. But hey, that’s how unpredictable WWE, and WWE betting in specific, can be.

On the other side of the spectrum are Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre, and Roman Reigns. They’re considered by many to be average wrestlers. Heck, Reigns can’t even cut a scripted promo to save his life (why do you think he has Paul Heyman by his corner?)

But they are big, look good, and have a thick mop of hair – things that have endeared them to Vince. The result?  As of October 2020, Roman Reigns has the Universal Championship belt sitting pretty around his waist (or shoulders, he takes his pick), whereas Strowman and McIntyre are established, upper-card wrestlers.

All in all, remember that pro wrestling scriptwriters are humans, given to their own likes and dislikes, and with allegiances pledged to the company. They only want to put up the most entertaining show possible while playing within the confines of kayfabe* and storylines. Moreover, they’re definitely not giving any thought to WWE betting.

*refer to our glossary below

This is all the information you have at hand to formulate a watertight betting strategy. Think about outcomes that would be boring to watch, as well as outcomes that would get the countless WWE fans on the edge of their seats. Once you start thinking along these lines, you will be able to make your decisions accordingly.

How To Place a Wager on a WWE Betting Site

Placing a pro wrestling wager on a betting site isn’t as straightforward as ISL or EPL betting. The process is a bit more detailed, which we've described in steps below:

1. Find the best pro wrestling odds

After you have deposited funds in your account, the next step is to hunt for the best WWE odds. This can be challenging, considering most betting sites don’t have a separate header for them. More often than not, you will find pro wrestling odds in the ‘TV Games’ or ‘TV and Entertainment’ section of these sites.

It's best to find where these WWE odds are straight away, so you can place a pro wrestling bet without any hassle closer to the start of a match or event.

2. Pick your wager

Choose from the various WWE betting markets we’ve listed in the respective section above. Remember that most bookies will offer moneylines, where you only have to predict the winner of a particular bout or tournament. These wagers are as simple as they come, and ideal should you be dabbling in betting on the WWE for the first time.

Additionally, some bookies may offer prop bets as well -for instance, which wrestler would have the maximum in-ring time in a pay-per-view.

3. Use the best bonuses

You will probably not find tailored bonuses for WWE betting, but that’s no reason to worry. You can still exploit a range of other bonuses, including matched deposits (where you get a percentage of the deposit as bonus credits) and cashback offers.

Many betting sites offer free bets, i.e. bonus bets for placing a qualifying wager. With a little luck on your side or the right bookie, you might even be offered no deposit bonuses as well.

4. Place the bet

After you’ve decided the type of bet you want to place, choose that wager and enter your stake on your bet slip. Et violà! You're done.

Understanding Pro Wrestling Terminology

Orton’s a heel, whereas Cena’s the ultimate babyface. But hey, at least they didn’t get buried.

Trying to wrap your head around what we've just said? If you are, here’s your guide to the WWE lingo. These are terms you must understand if you ever want to give WWE betting a try (or just talk about pro wrestling with your friends).

Angle

For the wrestling noob, an angle is another word for a storyline. Think about it as the driving force to pro wrestling, what drives the intriguing plot behind a page-turner of a match.

Babyface

Also called ‘face’ for short, the Babyface is the good guy, much like the protagonist or hero of a movie or novel. A face is whom the fans cheer for (unless it is Cena or The Big Dog).

Blowoff

Typically, the last match of a long-standing feud. After a blowoff, the two wrestlers usually call off their duel and go their separate ways.

Burial (or buried)

A wrestler gets buried when he is forced to participate in boring angles or lose bouts consistently. While this could be a part of the script, it can also be used to bring a wrestler to book for having angered the company or insulted fellow wrestlers.

Clean finish

This is usually a bout finishing the right way, either by pinfall or submission, without any cheating or disqualification.

Dirty finish

Exactly the opposite of a clean finish.

Going over

A fancy way to say ‘winning’. A wrestler ‘goes over’ when he/she wins a bout. Simple.

Heel

The bad guy, the villain of a novel or play.

Jobber

Typically, the wrestler who always ends up losing. A jobber’s role is to help his opponent win and make him/her look good to the crowd.

Kayfabe

Simply put, maintaining kayfabe is maintaining the character. A slightly tricky concept, kayfabe is the fact of presenting scripted performances or character arcs as authentic or genuine.

Push

When any wrestler quickly goes up the ranks, either by winning consistently or sucking up to the authorities. ‘Being pushed’ is the exact opposite of ‘being buried’.

WWE Betting FAQs

Where can I find WWE betting lines and odds?

You can find the best WWE betting odds and lines at the bookmakers we have listed here. Our top five recommendations would be 22Bet, 1xBet, Betway, and NetBet. That said, any of the other betting sites we’ve singled out at the beginning of this article are great choices, too.

Aren’t WWE matches scripted? If yes, then how is WWE betting possible?

Yes. WWE matches are indeed scripted. However, while the outcomes are predetermined, only insiders are really privy to that kind of information. Outsiders, including bookmakers, have no idea what will happen during matches.

That is precisely why WWE betting is an extremely profitable proposition that has gradually gained popularity among punters and leading betting sites.

What are the skills required for WWE betting?

Surprisingly, there are skills you can apply to WWE betting. Remember, sports betting is about analysing the data at any given point in time, and making accurate predictions on match outcomes. However, if all matches were scripted without due thought along with totally random outcomes, you wouldn’t have had to apply any skills.

In reality, that’s not how it works. A team of scriptwriters decides how a match will pan out and who would win, their efforts focused on creating the best TV-watching experience.

Considering writers must stay within their confines to make the matches as exciting as possible, there is logic to all the madness. In essence, there is a degree of predictability to WWE betting. That is something you must tap into by analysing the information you have.

For example, the primary difference between WWE betting and IPL betting online is that, in the case of the latter, you would have to probe into the actual contenders and their form heading into a match.

However, when betting on pro wrestling, none of that is required. Instead, you must look at the more recent history of the writers, their tendencies, and how they have developed (and eventually concluded) storylines over time.

To locate these tendencies and possible betting strategies, carefully read our tips included in this article, follow the latest WWE news, and thereby maximise your chances of winning at WWE betting.

Is there value in WWE betting?

For all the popularity WWE or pro wrestling enjoys globally, it still can’t hold a candle to the English Premier League or for that matter, the Indian Super League. That means, as a punter, you are likely to find more value with WWE betting as compared to what you would with other sports.

Considering the general uncertainty around match outcomes, you should find extremely competitive odds at leading sports betting sites if you bide your time and shop around.

There is another reason why WWE betting can offer value big time. Understand that whenever a sportsbook offers betting on a sport that may not have as dedicated a following worldwide, there will always be that chance of more favourable lines being set for the punter.

Bookmakers usually spend the maximum time on sports that see significant betting action and garner a near-religious following. But when it comes to smaller sports and TV game shows like Big Boss, they are usually reserved as tactics to get new punters through the door.

That’s precisely why bookies may not spend a lot of time correcting or updating (in case of any significant action throughout the week) pro wrestling betting lines. If you can locate these lines, you can undoubtedly make an easy profit with WWE betting.

Usually, the most common WWE bet type is predicting the outcome of a match. There could be other prop bets, but these are generally straightforward and primarily a way to let punters in on the action.

Also, remember that WWE betting sites may cap the amount of action from players. That’s because it helps them cushion against losses stemming from incorrect or unfavourable lines, or in the case that the bettor is an insider with complete knowledge of the pre-set outcomes.

Are there mobile apps for WWE betting?

All the WWE betting sites recommended in this article have mobile-optimised websites that you can access through your mobile browser. Moreover, most of them also have dedicated sports betting apps that you can download on your Android or iOS device and win real money on the move.

When can I bet on WWE matches?

Unlike other sports, WWE has no off-season. That is excellent news for punters and viewers alike. You get countless WWE betting opportunities throughout the year, considering the company schedules matches every week. Usually, odds on live PPVs are posted a couple of months before the scheduled show.

Do I get a payout if one of the wrestlers is disqualified?

Suppose you are betting on the winner of a particular match in WWE Raw. In that case, disqualified wrestlers are typically excluded. For you to win the wager, the wrestler of your choosing must win by pinfall or submission.

However, this might vary from one bookmaker to the next. So, we suggest you thoroughly check the terms and conditions of WWE betting before you go ahead with a sportsbook.

Can I place WWE betting accas?

Most WWE betting sites today don’t offer parlays, mostly because of the additional risk of storylines leaking on the web.

What should I look for in a WWE betting site?

We recommend that you keep an eye out for the features listed below:

  • Multiple WWE betting markets
  • Great site reputation
  • An array of instant and safe deposit and withdrawal methods
  • Ease of use
  • Mobile compatibility
  • Bonuses and promos

CricketBettingAdvice Final Say

The WWE features high-octane matches every week, spread across its two flagship programmes – WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown. That should sound like good news if you are a punter trying to join in the action and make a hefty profit for yourself.

With plenty of year-round pro wrestling events and pay-per-views, there is no dearth of WWE betting opportunities to test your luck. Simply compare the leading WWE betting sites recommended here, choose a type of bet, use the best bonuses, and place your wager. Each sportsbook we offer:

  • Is checked for fairness and randomness by approved testing agencies like eCOGRA
  • Has excellent odds, round-the-year free bets, and regular promos
