CSA T20 Challenge Betting Odds, Tips & Predictions

CSA T20 Challenge betting gives you an impressive array of ways to bet on the competition. Whether this is via outright CSA T20 Challenge betting or match betting, you'll be spoiled for choice when looking to wager on this competition. The in-play markets also add to the excitement, with nothing quite matching the ability to read a game and place a bet before seeing your wager come in.

CSA T20 Challenge Betting Odds

Odds for the CSA T20 Challenge aren't available yet, but we'll post them here as soon as they are!

CSA T20 Challenge Betting Tips & Predictions

  • The difficulty with CSA T20 Challenge betting is that it doesn't get quite as much publicity as other competitions, meaning it can be difficult to do your due diligence before betting.
  • Unlike many other competitions, however, it's very easy to see who has been the dominant force in the history of CSA T20 Challenge betting. The Titans have been superb, with six titles from a possible 16.
  • The chasing pack may be quite far behind the Titans, but they're all tightly bunched together, with most sides picking up the trophy twice.
  • In the coming season, the Titans will be the choice for many, as their winning pedigree has proven time and again they're a side that can handle the pressure.
  • However, as the most decorated side in the competition’s history, they're not likely to offer a lot of value. Instead, backing the reigning champions, the Lions, would perhaps be the best way to place your money on an outright bet. This side were very impressive last season, and smashed their way to an impressive 203/4 in the final, beating the Warriors by 11 runs to lift the trophy.
  • With so few games this year, it wouldn't be a foolish move to back a team outside the aforementioned pair. Often, there are teams that are slow starters, which, in this shortened format, should be avoided. By contrast, there are sides that hit the ground running and then lose steam later in the season. Perhaps backing one of these sides constitutes an astute wager in this shorter campaign.
  • In terms of cricket matches in South Africa, it's important to boast a team with both seam and spin options. The pitches in South Africa change a lot over the course of a Test or competition, meaning a team that just has one or the other with regard to bowling options will likely struggle.
  • Be sure to look out for teams showcasing a lot of South African talent, as players that have grown up on those conditions often fare better.
  • The Match Winner market will, like any cricket betting competition, often offer little real value. To glean value here, look into the historic matchups between sides, with bogey teams offering a good chance they'll secure an upset.
  • Average scores in the 2019 edition of the tournament ranged between 140-170, with the bowlers clearly able to restrict their batting counterparts quite often. This means that your choice of top batsman won't always need to go past the hundred mark.

Like most other cricket competitions, CSA T20 Challenge betting brings with it a whole host of markets. These can range from outright markets to player and match markets. Below, we'll be going over a number of the most popular CSA T20 Challenge betting markets, and explain how to bet on them, giving you helpful insights and expertise on the best times to bet.

CSA T20 Challenge Outright Winner Betting

This market allows you to bet on the side you think will win the competition once the final ball has been bowled. The last iteration of the tournament in 2018/19 saw a double round-robin format followed by semi-finals and a final. However, it's been confirmed that this year’s competition will feature a single round-robin format before a final between the top two sides, meaning there will be a total of 15 games played by the six sides.

Be careful, though, as this market won't see you betting on who will finish at the top of the group stage. Instead, you'll be tasked with picking the overall winner, meaning if you've chosen the team that lifts the trophy at the end of the season, your bet will come in. This means that, as long as your team is one of the top two sides at the end of the group stage, you'll still have a good chance of your wager being a winner.

While the competition has seen most sides lift the trophy, the smart money must be on the Titans. With six wins to their name, three of which were won in a row between 2015 and 2018, the side will be desperate to get back to winning ways. The Lions will also constitute a shrewd bet, as the reigning champions have a point to prove if they're to make it two wins in two.

CSA T20 Challenge Top Batsman Betting

This market refers to betting on the batsman you think will score the most runs. T20 cricket is an incredibly exciting game that can often see the batsman on top, although it can also see them struggle. While everyone wants to nail a top batsman bet where their choice smashes a big century, it won't make a difference to your winnings if the player you backed top scores with a knock of 12, so long as he posts the biggest total.

You should be careful with this market, too. Be certain which market you're betting on, as there's a Top Batsman market and the Top Team Batsman market.

Top Batsman refers to every player in the game, meaning your choice must outscore his 10 teammates and the 11 opposition players. This market will usually offer more value on your choice, as there are 21 other players that can outscore him. Top Team Batsman refers to when you bet on a player to outscore his teammates. This market may offer shorter odds, but it will constitute a safer bet as your choice only has 10 players that could outscore him, rather than 21.

CSA T20 Challenge Top Wicket-Taker Betting

Much like the Top Batsman market, Top Wicket-Taker betting will see you wagering on the fortunes of a particular player. For this market, it's often wise to do some research into the bowling options and the conditions before making your bet.

For example, if England travel to take on Australia, you'll be better served backing an aggressive fast-bowler like Mitchell Starc, as the conditions will likely cater to his style of bowling. On the other hand, if Australia were touring England, you'd be better served backing a player like James Anderson, with the grassy pitches and overcast conditions helpful to exponents of swing bowling.

With this in mind, ensure that you've looked at the pitches at venues like SuperSport Park and the New Wanderers Stadium, as this will have a big impact on your bets.

CSA T20 Challenge Most Sixes Betting

This market is best used in T20 cricket, with the shortest format of the game seeing sixes almost guaranteed. A six is when a batsman hits the ball over the boundary rope that circles the pitch without it bouncing.

There's a reason sixes are usually so exciting to see. The batsman has to take on bowlers that are putting a huge amount of revs on the ball, or bowling at 90mph or more, and get enough elevation on the shot to beat the fielders and the boundary rope. A six is the biggest scoring shot possible in cricket, and is a real show of intent from the batsman.

When betting on six-hitting, the likes of Jos Buttler, Chris Gayle, and Quinton de Kock have all featured prominently in terms of smashing the ball around the park. Indeed, the ability to beat the field is something all of the best T20 players possess.

CSA T20 Challenge – Tournament Structure

The structure of South Africa’s premier T20 competition has gone through a number of changes over its lifetime. It originally started as a six-team competition with a single round-robin stage, followed by semi-finals and a final. It has evolved over the years to now include nine teams, with a maximum of 44 matches played in a tournament.

This year, the competition will revert to a single round-robin format before a final between the two top sides. Usually, there would be almost double the number of matches, along with a semi-final stage. However, due to current global circumstances, the competition has been shortened, meaning there isn't a lot of room for error this time round.

CSA T20 Challenge – History

The history of the CSA T20 Challenge is a convoluted one, which has seen many name changes and apparent cancellations. The tournament began in 2003, when Cricket South Africa (CSA) set up what they hoped would be a premier T20 competition. Originally named the Standard Bank Pro20, the event saw a total of 18 matches contested by six teams. By the end of the season, it was the Eagles that claimed the trophy for the first time, beating the Eastern Cape by seven runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method.

This format continued until the 2007/08 season, when the competition was extended to include seven teams, meaning 24 matches were played. Its relative success saw a further two sides added on. The total amount of games dropped to 20 for the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, with the latter being the final year the tournament was referred to as the Standard Bank Pro20. During this time, things had been fairly even, with the Eagles, Titans, and Cape Cobras all winning twice, while the Warriors and Highveld Lions won once each.

For just a single season, the competition was known as the MiWay T20 Challenge. Around this time, the game count peaked at 44. The Titans made the most out of this extended season as they notched their third crown. From the 2012/13 season onwards, the tournament was renamed to the Ram Slam T20 Challenge. With the competition reverting back to a shorter format of 32 games, the Ram Slam continued to bring thrills, excitement, and unpredictability.

The Highveld Lions, Dolphins, Cape Cobras, and Titans all won once in this four-year period, as the tournament continued to enjoy further success. However, yet another name change saw the CSA T20 Challenge take its place in 2016, with the Titans dominating ever since, winning twice, and the Lions winning the last iteration of the tournament in 2018/19. The CSA T20 Challenge was cancelled after this season due to austerity measures and a restructuring of the countries' domestic cricket setup. It was replaced by a franchise-based tournament called the Mzansi Super League.

Due to ongoing global circumstances, the latest iteration of the tournament was postponed. Despite apparently ending in 2018/19, the 2020/21 season of the CSA T20 Challenge is scheduled to take place in March 2021. It will see a single round of matches culminating in the top two sides progressing to the final. It's reported that this will replace the 2020 edition of the Mzansi Super League.
